Sunita raised the two kids as a single mother and supported Renuka in her dream to become a professional cricketer. According to a report on the official Olympics website, Renuka's brother, Vinod, stopped playing cricket due to a lack of funds for both of them. Hence, the doting brother sacrificed his dream and wholeheartedly supported Renuka in achieving the same dream.

After performing exceptionally well for Himachal Pradesh and Railways, Renuka Singh Thakur made her debut for the Indian women's team on October 7, 2021, in a T20I match against Australia. In the following years, she made her ODI debut on February 18, 2022, against New Zealand and her Test debut on December 14, 2023, against England. The little girl who once played with a ball made from torn clothes, fast-forward to 2025, and she is now all set to play against South Africa in the women's World Cup final.
