The Indian women's cricket team has reached the final of the 2025 ICC Women's Cricket World Cup after defeating defending champions, Australia, by five wickets in a nail-biting match in Mumbai's DY Patil Stadium. Although every single member of the squad has contributed heavily in India's journey to the final, fast bowler, Renuka Singh Thakur isn't getting enough limelight.
The 29-year-old pacer, who plays for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL, has clinched three wickets in the tournament so far. In the final against South Africa on November 2, 2025, Renuka Singh Thakur will be hoping to rise to the occasion and make her mark on the biggest stage. With her pace and precision, she is definitely among the players who can single-handedly shift the course of the entire match in their team's favour.

At the beginning of the tournament, Renuka was dropped from India's first match against Sri Lanka due to fitness concerns. However, after making her return to the side in India's crucial match against Pakistan, she has been a reliable fast bowling option for the Indian team. While India's road to the final has been impressive, Renuka's cricket journey has been equally phenomenal. For the uninitiated, Renuka was born on January 2, 1996, in Himachal Pradesh, into a humble family.

Renuka Singh Thakur was just three when her father, Kehar Singh Thakur, who used to work in the irrigation and public health department, passed away. It was a huge turning point in her life because, as soon as she grew up, she decided to become a cricketer and play for India. The reason was that her late father was a huge cricket enthusiast, and Renuka wanted to pay him a tribute.

After the unfortunate demise of Kehar Singh Thakur, it was his wife, Sunita, who took over her late husband's job as a class IV employee to raise their kids, Renuka Singh Thakur and Vinod Singh Thakur. Sunita raised the two kids as a single mother and supported Renuka in her dream to become a professional cricketer. According to a report on the official Olympics website, Renuka's brother, Vinod, stopped playing cricket due to a lack of funds for both of them. Hence, the doting brother sacrificed his dream and wholeheartedly supported Renuka in achieving the same dream.
