Retired army veteran donates property worth Rs. 4 crore to a temple

A surprising case has recently made headlines which follows the heartbreaking story of a retired army veteran. After years of service to the country, a 65-year-old ex-army officer, Vijayan, had decided to spend peaceful time with his family in his residence at Kesavapuram village near Arani town. But instead, he was insulted and neglected by his daughters. At the same time, his kids fought against each other for claiming their right to his property and pressured Vijayan to transfer it in their name. When his family failed to look after his daily needs, S Vijayan reportedly donated his property worth Rs. 4 crore

The case took place at the Arulmigu Renugambal Amman temple, where the officials were left shocked when they discovered the original property documents inside one of the donation boxes, also known as Hundis. It was located in front of the inner sanctum sanctorum, where the devotees leave their offerings for divine blessings. Since the donations are counted every two months, it is possible that the donation was made after the last counting round by the HR and CE. Two property documents were found where one costs around Rs. 3 crore and the other around Rs. 1 crore. It includes 10 cents of land and a single-storey house near the temple.

Alongside the documents, they found a handwritten note by Vijayan in which he expressed his wish to permanently give up his properties. However, in an interview with The Hindu, M Silambarasan, the temple's Executive Officer, explained that it was the first time when they witnessed such a big donation by someone. They deeply respected the donation but clarified that simply dropping off documents doesn't transfer ownership to the temple. Instead, it needs to be formally transferred as per the law. While Vijayan's family has taken a legal route to acquire those properties, he assured that he would transfer ownership to the temple and said:

"I will officially register my properties in the temple's name as per the law after speaking with the temple officials. I won't take back my decision. My children insulted me even for my daily needs."
