Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam's much talked-about courtroom drama, Haq has been released on November 7, 2025. For those who don't know, since the past few days the film has been grabbing a lot of attention because of the controversies around it. Amid that, read on to know the review of the film directed by Suparn S. Varma.
The film, Haq explores the story of 'Shazia Bano' (played by Yami Gautam), a well-educated woman who finds herself trapped in a loveless and emotionally abusive marriage with 'Abbas Khan' (played by Emraan Hashmi), who is a lawyer. 'Shazia's' life changes when her husband replaces her with another woman after 'Shazia' has given birth to their third child. But this doesn't shatter 'Shazia's' confidence and she demands justice. What begins as a personal heartbreak story soon turns into a public fight of national interest.

One of the major highlights of the film is the metaphor used by the writers. To make it clear, there is a scene in the film, where 'Shazia' questions her husband, 'Abbas' as to why he owns three pressure cookers. To which the domestic help replies that he doesn’t believe in mending old things, he simply replaces them. This indirectly explains 'Shazia's' current position as 'Abbas' replaced her with another woman as soon as he lost her perceived value.

One of the best things about his courtroom drama is the performance by Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam. The Ginny Weds Sunny actress delivers her career-best performance as 'Shazia Bano'. The way she has portrayed grace, emotional depth and strength is beyond amazing. Every dialogue said by her, every tear shed and every pause taken by her feels real, which makes the film memorable.

On the other hand, Emraan Hashmi's character 'Abbas Khan' not just adds a layer to the story but also raises questions on the existing patriarchy in the world. Unlike most loud characters, Emraan Hashmi's role is of a calm, sophisticated but an emotionally manipulative person. His character is someone who breaks the other person without even raising his voice. His powerful portrayal makes the audience question how patriarchy often hides behind politeness and intellect.

While the film is made with a lot of care and maturity, it is not a flawless film. A few things that lack in this Emraan and Yami starrer film, are the overused courtroom clichés, which includes last-minute evidence, speeches and more. Another thing that is weak in the film is that the story is too deeply focused on the main character that the supporting characters can feel out-of-place, as they are never fully developed.

In simple words, yes the film is definitely worth watching. If you like to watch a story that is mature and balanced, then Haq is the perfect choice. Also, the performance by the actors elevates the overall experience. A lot of critics and reviewers have appreciated the narrative, director, acting and have described Haq as Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam's best performance till now.
