Roadies 20: Meet Ashu Jain, AKA Not Just A Grandma, Baghban Story, Fitness Icon, Completed PhD At 53

MTV Roadies 20: Double Cross continues to dominate headlines, courtesy of the influencers and strong participants who have appeared during the auditions in different states. The judges' line-up for this particular season features Rannvijay Singha, Neha Dhupia, Prince Narula, Rhea Chakraborty, and Elvish Yadav. Even after so many years of its existence, hundreds of people turned up for the auditions of Roadies 20: Double Cross in Delhi, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, and Pune.

We have already seen many incredibly talented and physically strong people getting selected for the 20th season of Roadies. However, it was in February 2025 when a contestant's selection created a stir on social media and even the people who weren't watching Roadies were engaged in the story. The contestant we are talking about is Ashu Jain, who is a 57-year-old fitness influencer. Here's everything you need to know about the grandma who receives a lot of love on social media.

Ashu Jain is a renowned fitness influencer, who shares inspiring content related to fitness, wellness, and life on her Instagram handle. Currently, she has 240K followers on her IG handle that goes by "Not Just A Grandma", which speaks everything about a strong mindset and fitness. The 57-year-old woman was selected for the show after she left the judges impressed with her fitness and strong mentality. Despite the many young contestants on the show, the way Ashu Jain secured a spot in the show is remarkable.

For the uninitiated, Ashu Jain auditioned for Roadies 20: Double Cross in Delhi but couldn't get to the personal interview round. However, she didn't give up and tried her luck again at the auditions in Hyderabad. This time, Ashu Jain finally received the fruit of her tireless determination. In one of her Instagram posts, Ashu revealed that it was her fitness coach, Lakhvinder Singh, who advised her to try her luck in Roadies. She knew it would be hard, but she took the challenge and decided to pursue her dream of being selected for the iconic show.

In one of her Instagram Reels, fitness influencer, Ashu Jain opened up about her inspiring educational background and revealed that she completed her PhD from IIT at the age of 53. After getting married to Sannat Jain, Ashu Jain gave birth to three children and decided to put her career on hold in order to focus on raising her kids. The influencer completed her B.Tech in 1989 and then dedicated herself to the family. However, when she turned 45, Diva decided to complete her educational aspirations.

As a result, Ashu Jain enrolled in an M.Tech program at the age of 45 and later pursued a PhD from the Indian Institute of Engineering. The fitness influencer completed her PhD at the age of 53. What's interesting is that when Ashu Jain was pursuing an M.Tech at IIT, her granddaughter was also completing her B.Tech degree simultaneously at the same institute. Opening up about the same, Ashu Jain revealed in one of her IG posts that she faced a lot of trolling when she restarted her education. She penned:

"I did get a lot of weird looks and snide comments—'She's carrying a bag to college instead of teaching her kids,' 'Look at the state of her home'—but I was so caught up in living my dream that nothing else mattered."

At the age of 44, Ashu Jain started her fitness journey after she faced some serious health issues, including hypertension, lower back pain, stiffness in the shoulders, and weight gain. As a result, she immediately followed her doctor's strict advice, indulged in strength training and a strict diet, and maintained a healthy fitness regime. Apart from inspiring everyone with her fitness and strict diet, Ashu Jain won everyone's hearts when she gave a twist to the iconic Bollywood film, Baghban.

The influencer shared a reel on Instagram in which she shared how most of the senior citizens feel lonely because their children are engulfed in their respective jobs and responsibilities. She admitted that it is almost every home's story in India but presented a different and beautiful approach to this lonely phase. Ashu Jain emphasised the fact that she has a lot of spare time for herself, and she invests it in doing things which she couldn't do earlier in life.

From travelling to different places to dancing and exploring new hobbies, Ashu Jain is living her 50s to the fullest. Now that Ashu has been selected for Roadies 20: Double Cross, people are excited to see how she will perform in the show. The show will feature mostly youngsters, who are both physically and mentally fit, which is why it will be a tough battle between them and the super-granny, Ashu Jain.
