Famous Hollywood actor-director, Robert Redford's passing at the age of 89 left a void in the hearts of cinema lovers. He was a California blonde who proved to the world that he could return for over half a century. He is an Oscar winner and the most amazing actors of all time. While the cause of death is not yet known, he died in his sleep on September 16, 2025. Recently, we stumbled upon his friend, Jane Fonda's explosive statement and how she fell in love with him.
Jane Fonda and Robert Redford were once hailed as the most loving on-screen couples. Their chemistry would leave a lasting impression on the audience's mind. Their chemistry was lit in films such as The Chase, Barefoot in the Park, and The Electric Horseman. They were last seen together in 2017 for the Netflix film Our Souls at Night. Their pairing was just perfect and timeless, but it ended with the death of Robert Redford.
In a candid interview, Jane, who is a two-time Oscar winner, revealed that working with Robert Redford wasn't easy. Despite their great on-screen chemistry, Robert remained distant and cold towards her the moment the cameras stopped recording. For many years, Jane Fonda believed that she was the cause of Robert's coldness towards her.
Jane once admitted that Robert had a problem with women. She stated that he is always in a bad mood and doesn't like kissing. She thought it was her fault. Despite Robert being a good person, he has a problem with ladies. She was quoted as saying:
"He has a problem with women. He was always in a bad mood and didn’t like kissing. I used to think it was my fault, but I never brought it up with him. He’s a good person, he just has a problem with women."
However, Jane Fonda once confessed that she had fallen in love with the Oscar-winning director. During the 2017 Venice Film Festival, Jane went on to say that she loved doing bold scenes with him, but he didn't like it. However, she added that he was a great kisser. She said:

"I live for s** scenes with him. He doesn’t like sex scenes, [but] he’s a great kisser."
Jane Fonda shared a heartwrenching statement on her favourite co-star's death. She added that it was hard for her to know that he was gone. She added that she cannot stop crying since then, as he meant a lot to her. Her statement can be read as:
"I can’t stop crying. He meant a lot to me and was a beautiful person in every way. He stood for an America we have to keep fighting for.”
For the unversed, Jane Fonda has been married three times. She was first married to French Filmmaker, Roger Vadim, in 1965, but parted ways in 1973. Jane then fell in love with a politician, Tom Hayden and got married to him in 1973. Then she went on to marry media mogul, Ted Turner, whom she married in 1991. But they parted ways in 2001.
Robert Redford's has been married twice. It was in the early 1970s when he got married to his first wife, Lola Van Wagenen. They had four children, Scott , Shauna, James and Amy Redfor. However, their elder son, Scott, passed away at the age of 2 months. His other child, James, passed away in 2020 due to cancer. In 2008, he got married for the second time to a twenty-year younger German Artist, Sibylle Szaggars.
Robert Redford's second wife, Sibylle, founded The Way of the Rain in 2015, a non-profit organisation dedicated to merging art and education to raise awareness about climate change and environmental preservation. The organisation is involved in large-scale performances including dance, film, visual art, and music. She uses her art as a means to inspire others to take responsibility for the planet.
