Tamil actor, Robo Shankar’s untimely death came as a shock to many. He was one of the most versatile actors in the Tamil film industry. He was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai a few days back after he reportedly fainted on a film set. On September 18, 2025, he breathed his last at the age of 46. Actors like Dhanush, Sivakarthikeyan, MS Bhaskar, and Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister, Udhayanidhi Stalin paid their last respects to the actor.
Robo Shankar had immense love for actor, Dhanush, with whom he collaborated in Maari. Shankar has once revealed that it was Dhanush who helped him overcome tough times by providing him with financial assistance. Speaking to Galatta, Shankar also revealed that the actor’s gesture was something which stayed with him.
Over the years, Shankar has spoken highly of Dhanush and expressed his indebtedness to the actor. Revealing their unexplainable bond, Shankar said:
“I needed a favour from Dhanush, I called him and he was set to fly to work on a Hollywood film. His flight was going to take off in 10 min, and in the last minute, after much efforts, I was able to reach him. Soon after he attended my call, he said he will help me. And very quickly I got the financial aid I needed. The bond I share with him is unexplained. He looks after me so well.”
On September 16, 2025, Robo Shankar was admitted to the GEM Hospital, a private hospital in the city, after he fainted on the sets of a film he was working on. Dr S. Asokan, CEO of GEM Hospital, released an official report citing the real cause of the actor’s death. The report can be read as:
“He was admitted in a critical condition with a massive gastrointestinal bleed and multiorgan dysfunction secondary to a complex abdominal condition. He was managed in the critical care unit with intensive medical management. Despite the best efforts of our multidisciplinary team, his condition deteriorated rapidly.”
According to multiple sources, Robo Shankar was earlier diagnosed with jaundice, for which he underwent prolonged treatment. The actor had lost a lot of weight after his treatment, which was alarming for his friends and family. Despite his slow recovery, Robo Shankar returned to complete his commitments.

A stand-up comedian, Robo Shankar, was one of the most versatile actors of the South Indian film industry. He earned the name ‘Robo’ for his robot dances in village shows. The actor, who was fondly known for his comic timing, began his career as a mimicry artist and made his film debut with Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara in 2013. He later earned fame through his roles in Vaayai Moodi Pesavum (2014) and Maari. He was last seen in the film, Sotta Sotta Nanaiyuthu.
