With so many records to his name and has proved the mettle of his batting skills across all formats of the game, Rohit is commonly known by the nickname 'Hitman'. Some of his most famous records include the most sixes in international cricket, most double centuries in ODI cricket (3), joint most hundred in Twenty20I (5), most centuries at ICC Cricket World Cups (7), and he is also the first player to hit five T20I centuries.

So far in his cricketing career, Rohit Sharma has played a series of unforgettable performances. However, there are some innings that deserve a separate mention. Rohit Sharma won the IPL with Deccan Chargers and left them for Mumbai Indians after 3 years

The first season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was held back in 2008 and Rajasthan Royals won it. However, it was the Hyderabad-based franchise, Deccan Chargers, who won the second season of the IPL in 2009. Courtesy of Rohit Sharma's explosive batting on the international level, he was purchased by Deccan Charges and was one of the highest-paid Indian players in IPL. The cricketer received a sum of Rs. 3 crore as a salary from Deccan Charges for hitting boundaries and sixes.

Due to Rohit Sharma's consistency, he remained a part of Deccan Chargers for the next two years on the same contract. After playing for Deccan Chargers for three years, ahead of the 2011 IPL season, he was purchased by Mumbai Indians for a staggering sum of Rs. 9.20 crores. The cricketer caught the attention of Mumbai Indians' owners, Nita Ambani and her son, Akash Ambani, with his brilliant performances in the national team and the IPL team, Deccan Chargers.

For the unversed, Rohit Sharma received a hike of 206.66 percent in his transfer from Deccan Chargers to Mumbai Indians. As expected, his high-paid move grabbed the headlines and created a lot of buzz in the cricketing world. However, in his third season with Mumbai Indians, he was chosen as the team's captain, and it was the moment that changed the history of the Mumbai-based franchise forever. In his first season as the captain of Mumbai Indians in 2013, Rohit Sharma took his team to the final.

In the finale, Rohit locked horns with Mahendra Singh Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings and took the trophy home by winning the match by 23 runs. It was a historic moment for Mumbai Indians and Rohit Sharma, as it was his first title as the captain of an IPL team. In the coming years, Rohit Sharma's leadership worked tremendously well for Mumbai Indians as they won four titles in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. Mumbai Indians' owners, Nita Ambani and Akash Ambani took Rohit Sharma's contract from Rs. 9.20 crores to Rs. 16 crores in 12 years

Rohit Sharma joined Mumbai Indians in 2011 on a salary of Rs. 9.20 crores, and he got his first hike in 2014 when he was given a fresh contract with a 35.86 percent hike. From 2014 onwards, Rohit was on a Rs. 12.50 crore contract with Mumbai Indians, which remained the same till 2017. In 2018, Rohit once again received a hike of 20 percent that took his salary from Rs. 12.50 crores to Rs. 15 crores. The cricketer received a constant sum of Rs. 15 crores from Mumbai Indians from 2018 to 2021.

However, it was in 2022 when Nita Ambani and Akash Ambani rewarded their captain with a hike of 6.66 percent that increased his salary from Rs. 15 crores to Rs. 16 crores. If we talk about the overall hike that Rohit Sharma has received in all these years, right from his debut with Deccan Charges in 2008, it is around the massive figure of 433.33 per cent. The cricketer started his journey in IPL with a salary of Rs. 3 crores and now earns Rs. 16 crores in 21 years. According to a report in Insidesport, Mumbai Indians have spent more than Rs. 160 crores on Rohit Sharma in a period of 13 years.
