Rohit Shetty is an exceptional filmmaker who has earned a name for making mainstream, entertaining films with immense commercial success. He has collaborated with some of the leading movie stars in the Hindi film industry, including Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh and Akshay Kumar. Among them, one of Rohit Shetty's most exciting collaborations was with Shah Rukh Khan in Chennai Express, and fans were delighted when the duo announced that their upcoming film, Dilwale would bring back SRK's iconic pairing with Kajol. However, the much-awaited film's debacle shocked everyone, and rumours suggested that the actor and filmmaker had a rift over it. Rohit clarified the buzz in a new interview and shared why they didn't work again.
Rohit Shetty, admired for his honesty in the industry, recently sat down for an interview with Komal Nahta on his Game Changers podcast. In the conversation, he addressed his conflict rumours with Shah Rukh Khan. For those unaware, Dilwale clashed with Bajirao Mastani during its release in 2015 and failed to recreate the same magic as SRK and Rohit's last film, Chennai Express. After the failure, several reports suggested that SRK's production house was unhappy with the filmmaker's promotions, and even the superstar had complaints with Rohit. Moreover, they didn't work or share the stage, which fueled the rumours. Rohit and SRK maintained silence over it back then, but in his latest media interaction, Rohit denied it. He said:
“Nahi aisa kuch nahi.”
Rohit also mentioned that he and Shah Rukh share a lot of mutual respect. At the same time, he started his production house, and they went their separate ways. The Golmaal director mentioned that they both planned to make their separate films. He mentioned that even if they would have faced loss, which wasn't the case, it would not have caused a rift. Rohit added that despite being a failure in India, the film was a success overseas, which covered its loss. Sharing his views, Rohit said:
“Ek respect hai humare beech me aur Dilwale ke baad ye hua ki immediately phir humne humare khud ki production house kholi. Humne decide kiya ki hum khud ki filmein banayenge. Agar loss bhi ho to humara ho, jabki loss nahi hua tha.”
In the same conversation, Rohit Shetty shared that he feels grateful to have some close friendships with actors like Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, and Deepika Padukone. He mentioned they have a strong bond and can call each other at 2 am. Moreover, the actor also shared that Ajay Devgn is like an elder brother to him, and he is thankful to Deepika for shooting for his last film, Singam Again, despite being four months pregnant. Rohit shared:
"When only the last schedule of our film was pending, Deepika was four months pregnant. But she came for the shoot. Relations like these are rarely made."
Rohit Shetty began his career in the film industry as a stuntman and assistant director in the early 90s. He debuted as an independent director like Zameen in 2003 and got a breakthrough with the comedy-entertainer film, Golmaal in 2006. Rohit made popular films like Golmaal 3, Singham, Bol Bachchan, Chennai Express, Simmba among others.
