Ronit Roy Recalls His Tough Days Before Making Acting Debut In 1992, Says, 'Money Never Came...'

Ronit Roy is one of the finest actors in the Hindi TV and Bollywood industry. In both small and big screens, he won hearts through his stellar performances. Back in 1992, he made his acting debut with the film, Jaan Tere Naam. However, even after his debut film was a commercial success, the Kaabil actor didn’t get offers for months. In a recent interview, Ronit recalled his struggling days before he entered the industry. He shared how the financial hardships continued even after he entered the film industry.

Ronit Roy talks about how his early career struggles and missed opportunities

Ronit recently sat for an interview with Hindi Rush and talked about his early career struggles in the film industry. For the unversed, Ronit made his acting debut as a lead actor in 1992 with the film, Jaan Tere Naam, directed by Deepak Bajaj Vij. He also revealed how often he felt isolated in the industry and thus refrained from socialising. Recalling how he missed opportunities in his initial days, Ronit said:

"I honestly don’t know why my career didn’t take off in the early days. I used to think about it a lot before, but now I don’t. I stay in my own zone, and I think a lot of it also happened because I stopped going to people for work, and hence, they stopped giving me opportunities."

Earlier, in an old interview with The Indian Express, Ronit revealed that he didn’t get a single offer, even after his debut film was a hit. He disclosed that his debut film was in the theatres for 25 weeks. The Adaalat actor shared that it all happened because of some wrong choices he made. In his words:

"Jaan Tere Naam was a silver jubilee. Those days, it meant 25 weeks in a theatre. It is natural to get lot of offers, lot of films after a debut that ran so long in the theatres. Unfortunately, for me, I did not get even a single call for 3 months. I made wrong choices and ended up having no films for several years. It was in the early 2000s when I came back with Balaji Telefilms. And 2010, I came back to cinema with Udaan."

Ronit Roy recalls the days when he had to go through extreme financial conditions

In the interview with Hindi Rush, Ronit recalled the tough days, he had spent before entering the industry. The financial condition was deplorable, and he had to struggle hard for the basic needs. The 2 States actor revealed that even after entering the film industry, he had to face financial constraints. Ronit shared that his first acting payment was Rs. 50,000, and he got the payment in monthly instalments of Rs. 4000. In his words:

"Back then, that was a huge amount for me. But even after the debut, all the films I did helped me barely manage my expenses. The money never came; it was all still hand to mouth."

Ronit Roy becomes teary-eyed, sharing a memorable experience of his at a dhaba

Further in the interview, Ronit shared a memorable experience of his from the tough days. Back then, he often used to visit a small dhaba, near Bandra station in Mumbai. Due to a tight budget, the actor could afford just one meal a day. The meals used to include either kaali dal or palak paneer with two rotis. Ronit recalled how he had gone one day to the dhaba and asked them to give him two rotis and some onions as he ran out of money. However, the dhaba owner was kind enough to give him some dal, even after knowing that he had not asked for it. Ronit became teary-eyed recalling the kind gesture of the dhaba owner.
