Rubina Dilaik is known for her fearless, no-nonsense attitude, both on and off screen. Whether it’s societal double standards or online negativity, she is not the one to hold back. The actress has often slammed trolls and critics with her grace and power, and her latest stand against colourism towards her daughters has once again proven why she’s a force to be reckoned with.
In a heartfelt vlog, television star, Rubina Dilaik opened up about a troubling and recurring incident where people have been comparing the skin tones of her twin daughters, Edhaa and Jeeva. The actress shared that one of her daughters has a slightly dusky complexion while the other is fair, and some visitors can’t help but point it out. However, Rubina made it clear she doesn’t tolerate such comments in her home, labelling the comparisons as ‘bad.’ She said:
“My one baby is little dusky, the other one is fair... and people come and compare, which is so bad. But I always tell them that my daughter is beautiful, forget fair or dusky. And I tell them, never bring this comparison into my home.”
Rubina Dilaik also addressed that she has often receives unsolicited advice, especially from relatives, about using home remedies like besan or dal pastes to lighten her daughters’ skin tones. She said she immediately shuts down such suggestions, and stressed on the fact that both her daughters are beautiful as they are. For Rubina, her daughters' skin tone is not something that needs to be fixed or changed.
The actress revealed that she’s already instilling confidence and self-love in her daughters, even though they are just 20 months old. Rubina Dilaik shared that she whispers positive affirmations to them every day. She believes these early affirmations will help her daughters grow up with a healthy self-image. She even admitted that this was something she herself had only achieved in her 30s. She said:
"They are still very young to understand, but I always whisper to them, 'You're beautiful just the way you are, you are strong, you are fearless'. This is how we build the psychology. It took me 30+ years to realise it, but I want my daughters to know it right from the start."
Rubina Dilaik and her husband, actor, Abhinav Shukla, got married in Shimla in June 2018 and welcomed their twin daughters on December 27, 2023. The couple introduced Edhaa and Jeeva to the world months later during Navratri 2024. This was a thought after decision, as the couple didn’t share their children's picture with the public initially. The two are protective and cautious when it comes to sharing their personal lives and children with the online commuinity.

Now, with her bold stance on colourism, Rubina Dilaik is taking a powerful step towards breaking regressive beauty standards which are often rooted in outdated practices, but that are still being pushed in our society. She hopes that by openly discussing these issues, more parents will feel empowered to reject such ideas and practices. For Rubina, the goal is simple: to raise daughters who don’t learn the toxic ideals about appearances.
