We live in a world, where body-shaming has become a normal course. Every other day, we witness how netizens or people around us poke us about our weight. From ‘tum kitni patli ho’ to ‘tum kitni moti ho’, everyone is questioned and the situation gets worse when you have delivered a baby. People around you judge you for gaining weight post-delivering a baby and they judge you even when you try to lose post-pregnancy weight. Anupamaa actress, Rupali Ganguly too was body-shammed, after giving birth to her baby boy, Rudransh.

For the unversed, Rupali Ganguly had known her husband, Ashwin K Verma for 12 years as they were friends. It was on February 6, 2013, that Rupali had tied the knot with Ashwin. Two years later, in 2015, Rupali had embraced motherhood and had welcomed a baby boy, Rudransh. After delivering her baby boy, Rupali had taken a sabbatical from acting for seven years. She has made her comeback into the Television world with her popular show, Anupamaa. While people only consider the grass to be greener on the other side, for Rupali, her pregnancy and the post-pregnancy journey was not a cakewalk.
Due to a low fertility count, even after conceiving her baby naturally, Rupali had faced many issues and mental turmoil after delivering her son. The actress had faced trouble in lactating to breastfeed her baby and was thus, eating everything in order to produce milk for her son. This had made the actress gain weight and become a victim of body shaming by her society wali aunties. In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Rupali recalled the incident and said, "From 58 kilos when I delivered Rudransh, I went up to 86 kilos. When I would take my child out for a walk, certain neighbouring aunties that I didn’t even know… ‘Arre, tum toh Monisha ho, kitni moti ho gayi ho (You are the actor who plays Monisha, right? You have gained so much weight).’ Who gives anybody a right to judge a mother? Nobody knows the kind of issues that a woman is going through.”
Earlier, in an interview with Pinkvilla, Rupali had opened up on why she had taken a sabbatical from work for seven years and post-delivery weight gain. The gorgeous actress had shared, "Seven years back after I gave birth, I gained weight. My body changed and I couldn’t look at myself. I would not step out of the house afraid of what people would say. If I couldn’t look at myself, why would people want to look at me? Self-doubt started seeping in. So, when Sarabhai 2.0 happened, I somehow managed to get out but then I realised I don’t want to leave my child alone. Hence, when an offer would come up, I would quote ridiculous figures."

Talking about Rupali and Ashwin’s love story, in an interview with The Times Of India, the actress had shared, "We were just friends for 12 years. We first met when I had modeled for one of his commercials. Then we became friends and started working together. He was my confidant, friend, philosopher, guide. He was the one who encouraged me to join television. Love shuv kab hua pata hi nahi chala. I just know he loves me a lot. So I am in a happy space now. We own an ad agency together and have been making commercials since the last 12 years. Our commercials have been nominated for the Emmy’s nine times. Ashwin means the world to me."
