Sabyasachi Mukherjee is a name that is known for weaving the dream outfit of countless brides across the globe. He has literally struggled hard to turn his vision into reality. But fashion design back then was an alien subject, and it wasn't easy to pursue as parents from humble backgrounds didn't like it. However, Sabyasachi wanted to pursue NIFT, but his parents refused due to financial constraints.
Sabyasachi Mukherjee was born in 1974 into a humble family in Kolkata. He had a lot of societal pressure when his father lost his job at a wool-combing mill. Sabyasachi, who was just 15 years old, forced the condition in his life to run away to Goa. he worked as a waiter and would wash dishes to make a living.
While he was struggling to live a decent life for himself, he weaved a dream of becoming a designer in his heart. Sabyasachi wanted to study at NIFT, but his parents refused to fund his admission. Sabyasachi didn't let the disapproval come his way of becoming a designer, and to buy the application form, he sold off his books. He worked hard to pay for his education.
It was in 1999 when Sabyasachi Mukherjee graduated from the National Institute Of Fashion Technology. After this, he took a loan of Rs. 20,000 from his sister to start his own label. It was the start of India's first global brand that is loved not just in neighbouring countries like Pakistan but also by people from UAE, Italy, and Dubai who wanted to have hands-on experience.
Coming back to Sabyasachi's journey of creating the brand, he started with three employees who worked hard through day and night for their debut collection, Kashgar Bazaar, which was showcased at the Lakme Fashion Week in 2002. The collection was inspired by his mother's artistry and was loved widely. After which, there was no looking back, he won his first International award — Grand Winner Award at Mercedes-Benz New Asia Fashion Week in Singapore.

In 2004, Sabyasachi was the only Indian designer invited to showcase at Milan Fashion Week. He went on to leave his mark at events in New York, London, and Miami Fashion Weeks. Sabyasachi, too, had critics of his work, who called his collection repetitive. Still, the young designer's vision was clear: to make timeless and iconic designs that are rooted in Indian traditions.
Sabyasachi's journey into Bollywood started after he was approached by Sanjay Leela Bhansali to design outfits for the film, Black in 2005. Later, in 2007, he unveiled his first bridal collection and made an avalanche in the wedding industry with his designs.
In no time, he became the most loved bridal designer. Rani Mukherjee was the first Sabyasachi bride in Bollywood, and the designer was the only one who attended her hush-hush wedding with Aditya Chopra. Later, Anushka Sharma, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt and many more actresses chose his collection for their happiest day. After 25 years of sheer hard work, Sabyasachi Mukherjee turned his label into India's first global brand worth Rs. 500 crores.
Well, Sabyasachi Mukherjee's journey proves that there is no dream that is far-fetched if you have the will to pursue it!
