Sabyasachi Vs. Manish Malhotra At Met Gala 2025: Know Which Indian Designer Aced The Red Carpet

The Met Gala isn't just any other fashion event held around the world. It's the Oscars of style where leading designers bring an amalgamation of innovation, art, aesthetics, and culture to present their best designs before the world, throughout the year. Celebrities steal the limelight in couture outfits throughout the year, but the Met Gala brings an opportunity for designers to step forward. Among others, leading Indian fashion designers, Manish Malhotra and Sabyasachi weren't far behind as they presented their creative best at the Met Gala 2025 red carpet. Let's take a closer look at it to determine who clearly stole the show.

Sabyasachi exudes elegance in custom couture inspired by Jamshedji Tata

Indian designers, Sabyasachi and Manish Malhotra made it a point to follow Met Gala's theme, 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style' with an Indian touch. Sabyasachi, who is known for his vintage charm and royal aesthetics, wore a look inspired by the Jamshedji Tata who founded Taj Hotels in India after being denied entry to European-only establishment, Watson Hotel in Bombay. He wore a hand quitted, oversized court jacket and sherwani. The special sherwani has been made with hand dyed Murshidabad silk.

He paired it with a satin shirt and black quilted trousers. Sabyasachi accessorised his look with a statement kamar bandh and custom embroidery shoes from his fashion house. He rounded his look with a traditional Indian cap, emerald choker set with a statement pendant and necklace from Sabyasachi jewellery. 

Manish Malhotra brings modern elegance to the red carpet

In comparison to Sabyasachi, Manish donned a more modern and dramatic look at the Gala. Instead of playing a safe game with conventional tuxedos, he chose to make an alluring entrance in a bejewelled black ensemble. He wore a crisp white shirt paired with tailored black pants. However, the show-stealing aspect was his majestic, floor-length black blazer with intricate floral embroidery and dazzling embellishments. Manish's outfit was dramatic and yet elegant with an adequate amount of OTT. 

He added an extra length at the shoulders of the blazer to reflect a sense of authority. Plus, he wore a sleek black tie with a statement brooch to add some drama and glitz to the look. Manish completed his look with a pair of polished black shoes, his regular well-groomed hairstyle and a few rings.

Who aced the Met Gala red carpet: Sabyasachi or Manisha Malhotra?

Both Sabyasachi and Manish Malhotra brought their A-game at the most important fashion event of the year. But it all comes down to the classic vs. modern approach. They followed the theme to the tee, wherein Sabyasachi's look was deeply rooted in Indian tradition, history and traditional Indian aesthetics. On the flip side, Manish's look was more dramatic, edgy and modern, making his look feel fresh and futuristic.
