The rising tension between India and Pakistan over the weekend left millions of Indians worried. At the crucial time, Netflix released The Diplomat, which is based on a real-life event, and stars John Abraham and Sadia Khateeb in lead roles. It premiered on Netflix on May 9, 2025, and quickly took the No.1 spot on the platform. Now, Sadia Khateeb talked about feeling connected to her character 'Uzma'.

Sadia beautifully portrayed the role of 'Uzma' in the film, and she gained fans across the globe. People expressed their appreciation with notes on Instagram and called her natural performer. Reacting to the love, Saida revealed how Uzma was a challenging character, which demanded physical and mental effort. She gave her deep commitment and emotional honesty while shooting it. Sadia further revealed that she even got emotionally attached to it, and it was overwhelming for her to see her audience getting attached to 'Uzma'. She was quoted as saying:

"Portraying a real-life character like Uzma was both mentally and physically demanding. It required deep commitment and emotional honesty. During the shooting, I got emotionally attached to her, I'm truly overwhelmed to see the audience’s attachment to her too."

For those who don't know, the film The Diplomat is based on the true events of an Indian citizen, Uzma, played by Sadia. She got trapped in a hostile situation in Pakistan and faced a lot of ordeals as a Pakistani man forcefully got married to her over gunpoint. The movie portrays her courageous efforts to escape the horrifying situation and get back to her homeland with the help of JP Singh and Sushma Swaraj. 

Extreme steps were taken by the Indian authorities to check Uzma's background and bring her back to India. Proper operations were conducted to help Uzma get back and escape from the ordeal of the beastly Pakistani man. According to the film, Uzma met the Pakistani man in Malaysia, where he honey-trapped her. He invited her to Pakistan and offered to take care of her only daughter, who was suffering from Thalassemia.

However, it was nothing but a trap by her husband, and she found out that he was married and had children. Many women were kept captive over there. Uzma suffered a lot of ordeal as he would inhumanly rape her, and torture her. The movie shows how Uzma trapped her husband and lured him to take her to Indian High Commission, where she narrated her painful story. The Diplomat shows the cooperation and kindness everybody showed in taking her out of the clutches of the Pakistani man, whose only motive was to make her suffer.
