Bollywood star, Saif Ali Khan has recorded his statement with the Mumbai Police regarding the shocking stabbing incident that took place at his Bandra residence on January 16, 2025. After getting released from Lilavati Hospital on January 21, 2025, the actor gave his statement in the late hours of January 23.
According to the information recorded by the Mumbai Police from Saif, the incident occurred in the wee hours of last Thursday, January 16, 2025, between 2:30 am and 2:40 am. Saif, along with his wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, heard screams from their younger son Jeh’s nanny, Eliyama Philip. Rushing to Jeh’s room, Saif encountered the intruder, who was armed with a knife. Despite the risk, he decided to restrain the attacker. Saif’s statement read:
“I held the assailant tight, but after he stabbed me again and again in my back, my grip loosened. Seeing all this, my family as well as the staff working in the house were scared… I stepped down to the 11th floor, where both my sons and their caretaker stay, after hearing some noises. As I reached Jeh’s room, I saw his caretaker talking to a stranger in a loud voice… The man was carrying a knife. Sensing a threat, I attempted to grab him.”
Saif shared how, in his attempt to grab the attacker, he got stabbed in the neck, back, and hands during the scuffle. The actor told the police that he eventually managed to overpower the assailant and lock him inside Jeh’s room, before being taken to the hospital. Saif was quoted as saying:
“After a while, he started stabbing me. He stabbed me in my back, neck and hands. In the meanwhile, the caretaker left the room with Jeh. I somehow attempted to overpower the attacker and locked him inside the room… Kareena and my sons were scared seeing me injured and the flow of blood. It was then when I was taken to the hospital.”
Meanwhile, the nanny, Eliyama Philip, took Jeh with her and fled the scene. Saif was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery for his injuries and was later discharged on January 21, 2025.
The attacker was caught by Mumbai Police on January 19, 2025, following a three-day manhunt. The accused, Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, identified as a 30-year-old Bangladeshi who illegally migrated to India and was using different identities. Police investigations revealed that Shehzad entered Saif’s home intending to steal money, driven by financial distress after losing his job in December. Fingerprints found at the crime scene, including on Jeh’s door handle and stair rails, matched those of the accused. During interrogation, Shehzad admitted his motive was theft, not harm. He planned to flee to Bangladesh after the robbery but was apprehended before executing his escape.
