Indian tennis star, Sania Mirza, was married to Pakistani cricketer, Shoaib Malik, back in 2010. The former couple in 2018 was blessed with a son whom they named, Izhaan Mirza Malik. It was in 2024 that the ex-pair got divorced, and Shoaib went ahead and married Pakistani actress, Sana Javed, back in Karachi, in a private ceremony. Sania has been living life as a single mother and recently spoke emotionally about the impact of divorce on her son, Izhaan.
Bollywood filmmaker and choreographer, Farah Khan, sat down for a conversation with Sania Mirza on her podcast, Serving It Up With Sania. Farah shared how, back in the day, she couldn't call her friends or tell them that their parents were separated. It was a big taboo. Sania shared that those times were different and emphasised that children are affected by their parents' divorce. Speaking from her personal experience, Sania said:
"See a child will get affected anyway. So you have to chose as to what you know a better situation. If a child is going to see tow people that are extremely unhappy then there are certain calls that need to be taken. But if you have a place where you are like we can fake it you are kidding yourself because the child understands."

Farah did tell Sania that she now sees in her children's school that divorce is normalised because every second person is coming from a broken home. Farah did agree that no matter how much you normalise it, a child is always affected. However, Sania did reflect upon her journey as a single mother as Farah spoke about friends, kids and the life of the tennis star. Farah saluted Sania and praised her for managing motherhood singlehandedly. Farah shared that the journey for a single mother is difficult as one has to work, do things alone and also give the kid time. Farah shared seeing Sania in her highest and lowest and revealed handling everything like a pro. Sania, speaking on being a single mom, revealed:
"It is very very hard and we all have our journeys and we all have to choose what is best."

Sania shared that she has had her own struggles and is not okay with people cooking up stories about her struggles. She feels things have changed with time, and her child doesn't need to face a struggle. However, one thing that bothers Sania is the mom guilt. She shared that whether one is married or not, when a woman has a child, they have to work and then balance spending time with the child.

Sania did agree that it was not easy to make tough decisions, and she had to balance the pressure of being a mom. Farah then shared about the moment when Sania was at her lowest point, but she still mustered the courage to come on the sets of Farah's show. Farah recollected how her friend got a panic attack and shared:
