Two of the most renowned faces of the sports world, Sania Mirza and her hubby, Shoaib Malik welcomed their ‘Baby Mirza Malik’, Izhaan, on October 30, 2018, and we all went gaga as soon as the news broke the internet. And ever since, we had been striving to see a close-up of the baby until Sania took to Instagram on December 22, 2018, and posted the first-ever close-up of Izhaan. Sharing the picture, Sania wrote, “Living life in the fast lane can be fun !!! It’s time to say hello to the world #Allhamdulillah.” This is how Izhaan Mirza Malik looks:
Adorable beyond words, right? And on New Year 2019, the ace tennis player took to Instagram and shared their fun-filled, first family picture! The picture had the doting mommy lovingly gazing at her hardly 3-month-old son, while Shoaib Malik was busy sleeping soundly in the background! Sharing the picture, Sania wrote, “This past year I have so much to be thankful for my greatest gift Izhaan. When Izhaan was hardly five days into the world, Sania took to Instagram and had posted two adorable pictures, one was of 5-day-old Izhaan watching a cricket match played by his daddy Shoaib, and the other was of three white sports shoes. The newbie mommy captioned the pictures as, “So it’s been 5 days since we came into this world. Me as a mother and my little Izhaan as my son. We’ve even watched Baba play some cricket together since we’ve arrived it truly is the biggest match, tournament achievement I’ve ever won or had and there is no feeling or blessing that can be greater than this.. I finally have gotten sometime after this overwhelming feeling to get online and check the messges and love we have received. Shoaib and I feel truly blessed and humbled with the wishes and love that us as parents and Izhaan have received. Thank you to each and every one of you ..we love you right back! In a December 2018 interview with Femina, Sania spoke about young women and prioritising career, marriage and children and shared, “The most important thing I would like to say to girls and women is that you have to choose what you feel is right. There are certain cultural dos and don’ts that we are subjected to as girls while growing up, and even as adults after we have grown up. There is no right or wrong from that perspective, you have to go by what you feel. You have to believe in your dreams and, more importantly, yourself. I was lucky to have a family that backed and supported me in every decision—whether it was playing tennis, getting married, or wanting to have a kid. It was always about when I wanted to do it, and not about what the cultural norm was. I want to tell women that if you really want to do something, and believe in it, then you can have it all; you don’t have to choose.”
What are the values that she would like to inculcate in Izhaan? In a July 2018 interview with Gulf News, Sania had shared, “In today’s age and time, it is extremely important to be independent. I am not talking about adults, but children as well. I see that in today’s kids where they are confident and have no qualms about coming and talking to me. I can’t remember ever doing that because I was a shy child. I want my child to be self-confident, self-sufficient and independent. While my child will be my number one priority, that does not mean I have to spend every single minute of the day with them to make them a good person or to parent them.”
In the same interaction, Sania spoke about the cross-cultural relationship that Izhaan will grow up with, “I don’t think that it matters which country they belong to or what colour or what religion they belong to. They need to understand that we are all human beings. Being a good person is much higher than anything else in the world”.
