Sanjay Dutt's sisters, Priya Dutt and Namrata Dutt, had released a coffee table book titled, Mr. and Mrs. Dutt: Memories of Our Parents as a heartfelt tribute to their late parents, Sunil Dutt and Nargis Dutt. The book was released in the year 2007, and the two sisters had shared an incident when their brother, Sanjay, was serving his sentence in the Yerwada jail.
According to their memoir, in August 1994, Namrata And Priya had visited the jail along with their father, Sunil Dutt, to tie rakhi to their brother. The sisters had also opened up about the gift that they had received from Sanjay that had left them and their father in tears. Recalling the same, the sister had penned:
"We tied a rakhi on his wrist. Sanjay looked and said, "I have nothing to give to both of you. This is all I have (two rupee jail coupon)."

Going further in the memoir, Priya Dutt and Namrata Dutt had stated that they've kept the coupons safely, as it was the best gift their brother, Sanjay Dutt, had ever given to them. Indeed, those coupons were the sign that Sanjay had transformed into a completely different person. Then, recalling the reaction of Sunil Dutt, the doting daughters had revealed that Sanjay's gift had moved their father in tears. After which, they all had given Sanjay a long hug and had wept until the jail officials had told them that his meeting time was over. In their words:
"It was an extraordinary moment emotional moment for us. Dad broke down. We held each other in a long embrace and wept, unburdening our hearts, before Sanjay was led back to his cell."
In their memoir, Mr. and Mrs. Dutt: Memories of Our Parents, Priya Dutt and Namrata Dutt had also opened up about the impact of Sanjay Dutt's sentence on their father, Sunil Dutt. The Dutt sisters had revealed that their dad used to sleep on the floor and used to get up early in the morning. The reason was that their brother was also sleeping on a stone floor in the jail and used to get up early as per the jail's routine. Recalling the same, Priya and Namrata had penned:
"Dad became obsessed with Sanjay's situation, and his behaviour became increasingly erratic. He was beside himself. He didn't sleep and would get up at four in the morning. He would say how could he sleep when his son was in the same city, a few miles away from him, lying on a cold stone floor?"
