Santosh Iyer Expressed Disappointment On Son, Shreyas Iyer's Exclusion From Asia Cup T20 Squad

Cricket is more than a sport in India. It is a complete emotion that unites millions of people together. Among several talented cricketers, one name that stands out is of Shreyas Iyer. In the past few years, he has shown his amazing game in both domestic and international cricket. But, his recent absence from India's Asia Cup T20 squad has sparked a debate among fans.

Shreyas Iyer’s father raises questions on his absence

Recently, in a conversation with The Times Of India, Shreyas Iyer’s father, Santosh Iyer raised questions on why Shreyas was not selected for Asia Cup, despite playing so much. He pointed out that Shreya Iyer has performed exceedingly well as a captain in IPL format and still he is not considered for the team. Santosh Iyer expressed his disappointment and raised a question on what else Shreyas needs to do. In his words:

"I don’t know what else Shreyas has to do to make it to the Indian T20 team. He has been performing so well in the IPL year after year, from Delhi Capitals to Kolkata Knight Riders to Punjab Kings, and that too as a captain. He even captained KKR to the IPL title in 2024 and led PBKS to the final this year. I’m not saying make him the Indian captain, but at least select him in the team."

While talking to the same reporters, Santosh Iyer shared Shreyas’ feelings and said that even though he is disappointed, he will never point fingers at someone. He will always accept it and call it his fate. He explained:

"While Shreyas would’ve been disappointed himself, he isn’t someone to point fingers. However, let me tell you that even if he’s left out of the Indian team, he doesn’t show dissent on his face. He’ll just say, ‘Mera naseeb hai! You can’t do anything now.’ He’s always cool and calm. He doesn’t blame anybody. Deep inside, he must be naturally disappointed."
