Sarah Jessica Parker rose to new heights of success with her role as 'Carrie Bradshaw', a fashion-forward columnist in Sex And The City. But unlike her character's messy love life, complicated flings and dramatic breakups, Sarah's personal life couldn't have been more different. Behind the camera, Sarah did face heartbreak, but it wasn't until she found a lasting love in the form of her husband, Matthew Broderick. As you already know about 'Carrie's love life, here's everything about Sarah Jessica Parker's real-life love story.
Long before meeting the love of her life, Sarah Jessica Parker was in a serious relationship with Avengers: Endgame actor, Robert Downey Jr. The pair first met in 1984 on the set of Firstborn and dated for nearly seven years in the public eye. Although the duo shared a strong chemistry off-screen, their relationship began to deteriorate due to Robert Downey's struggles with drug and alcohol addiction.
Sarah Parker has openly shared to PEOPLE how Robert's addiction took an emotional toll on their relationship. At the age of 22, she used to constantly worry like a parent for him and felt that she was the only thing holding him together. Rather than living her life in her early 20s, Sarah was dealing with fear for Robert's life, the emotional strain of their bond and his unpredictable addiction. When she tried to seek help from the people around him, they dismissed her thoughts, which made her feel more isolated. At the end, she was left with no choice but to leave. Recalling the time, the Iron Man actor told Parade:
"I liked to drink, and I had a drug problem, and that didn't jibe with Sarah Jessica, because it is the furthest thing from what she is. She provided me with a home and understanding. She tried to help me. She was so miffed when I didn't get my act together."
After her breakup, Sarah Jessica Parker had briefly dated former US President, John F Kennedy's son, but things didn't work out. As she moved to New York and focused on her work, love knocked at her door in the form of actor, Matthew Broderick. She met him through one of her brothers, and their friendship soon turned into romantic conversations. Sharing how Matthew asked her out through a voicemail, Sarah told to New York Times:
"He left a very charming, very self-effacing message on the machine. 'You know, 'Hi, it's Matthew Broderick.' You had to use your last name."
Gradually, love blossomed between the duo, and they featured together on Broadway in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying in 1996. The duo surprised their fans by tying the knot in a surprise wedding at a synagogue in New York City. They invited their friends over for a party, only to shock them by tying the knot, where Sarah wore a black dress to avoid drawing attention. Now, the couple have been married for more than 28 years and are parents to three children, son, James Wilke, and twin daughters, Tabitha and Marion, born via surrogate in 2009. Matthew once admitted to The Telegraph how they deal with ups and downs as a couple and said:

"We've been together for 20 years, and you have good days, you have decent days, and you have bad days. That's a marriage. That's a relationship. That's friendship, even relationships outside marriage run the same course. If you're in it for the long haul and you want meaningful relationships, you are going to go through lots of different periods."
