'Is This Really Happening?' Satish Shah's Wife, Madhu Asked Heartbreaking Question At His Funeral

Satish Shah's passing left a big void in the hearts of many, especially his wife, Madhu, who has been battling Alzheimer's. It is an age-related issue where a person is suffering from memory loss, and it worsens over time. Satish Shah wanted to live a healthy life for Madhu to give her support, but destiny had other plans, and he died due to cardiac arrest on October 25, 2025.

Recently, Satish Shah's friend and on-screen wife, Ratna Pathak Shah, penned an obituary for him in The Indian Express. Ratna recalled her conversation with Satish Shah's wife, Madhu, at his funeral and revealed the heartbreaking thing she said to her. Ratna revealed that Satish's friends and family gathered at his funeral, as his face was still first time in years. However, when they turned to Madhu, who had been with him for 45 years, she was in total disbelief. Ratna revealed Madhu's question to her during Satish's funeral. She wrote:

"Is this really happening? she asked me, her eyes stunned, her hands stiff. As he was led away, we gathered around her and tried to make sense of the events."

Ratna further added that Satish wanted to live for his wife and to take care of her through her troubled times. He would lovingly sing for Madhu, and she wondered who would sing to her and with her after Satish's passing. Ratna Pathak also revealed that how Madhu joined the actors who were celebrating Satish Shah during his prayer meet by singing their show's song. She wrote:

"Madhu was able to join in — she sang softly and tentatively at first, as if surprised that the man associated with these songs wasn’t present. But then she just gave in to the warmth of the loved ones who came together to celebrate his life, while marking his passage to another stage. Her voice rose and she seemed to be singing to her Satish."

Satish Shah underwent a kidney transplant to take care of his ailing wife at the age of 74

For the unversed, Satish Shah, at the age of 74, underwent a kidney transplant earlier this year to take care of his ailing wife, Madhu. Actor and filmmaker, Sachin Pilgaonkar, in an interaction with ANI, revealed that Satish Shah underwent a kidney transplant to extend his wife's life. He added that his wife is also not well as she has been suffering from Alzheimer's. The 74-year-old actor was on dialysis. Sachin was quoted as saying:

"He got a kidney transplant only to extend his wife’s life. Unfortunately, even Madhu isn’t well. She has Alzheimer’s. This year, Satish got his kidney transplanted. He wanted to extend his life so that he could take care of Madhu. He was on dialysis. Earlier, he underwent a bypass surgery, which was successful."

The actor also revealed that his wife, Supriya, visited the late actor three days before his death. Satish Shah had played music, and Supriya danced with his wife, Madhu, who recalled how she would dance on cha-cha-cha. Sachin also revealed that he received a text from Satish Shah at 12:56 p.m., just a few hours before his sudden death. 

For the unversed, Satish Shah and his wife, Madhu, chose not to have any children and focus on their relationship and companionship. Their relationship was built on mutual respect and quiet understanding. With Satish Shah gone, his ailing wife, Madhu is left alone.
