Selena Gomez recently hosted the first-ever Rare Impact Fund Benefit in Los Angeles. The purpose of the event was to support the mission of reducing the stigma surrounding mental health and providing greater access to mental health services and education for young people globally. Many famous people attended the event, including Francia Raisa, who donated a kidney to Selena in 2017, as the singer needed a transplant because of her Lupus condition.
On the event’s red carpet, Francia Raísa expressed her support for her friend Selena Gomez. She also talked about the difficulties they experienced together and the hurtful comments she received when there were rumours of tension between them.

In an exclusive interview with Extra TV, the 35-year-old American actress, Francia Raisa revealed how she had met the Single Soon singer 16 years ago. She said that they first crossed paths while visiting a hospital. She said:
“Disney had the stars of their shows go to the Children’s Hospital and visit all the kids. She was in my group. She came up to me and was like, ‘My mom had a teenage pregnancy, she was 16 years old, and we love your show.’ I was like, ‘Oh, my God, thank you! I love your show.’ We started talking.”
Francia further talked about how they gelled really well when she and Selena were going through their respective break-ups. She said:
“Around the time that my boyfriend and I broke up, and her and her boyfriend broke up, she called me and was like, ‘I am going through some stuff… I am going through a breakup.’ I was like, ‘Girl, me, too,’ and we were just inseparable after that ever since.”
It seemed that there was some tension between Selena and Francia after the singer mentioned to Rolling Stone in November 2022 that she didn't feel like she fit in with the cool group of celebrity girls, and that Taylor Swift was her only friend in the industry. Francia responded with a comment that has since been deleted, saying ‘Interesting’. Later, Selena apologized in the comments section of a TikTok post, saying that she didn't mean to leave anyone out.

Both women have cleared the air around their feud by stating that they have ‘no beef’ between them anymore. Francia further shared in the same interview how both of them trauma-bonded. She said:
“We trauma-bonded, which is beautiful, but also it can get rocky and tricky. People grow, relationships change. Obviously, I treat her like my little sister, she treats me like her older sister. I don’t know any relationship that’s perfect. When our situation came up. No, I never pictured that, but obviously I never regretted it. I am happy that we are here today, celebrating and supporting each other.”
When the interviewer stated that she is happy that Francia and Selena are in a good place at present, the How I Met Your Father alum said that people need to spend time apart in order to grow. Francia said:
“Sometimes, I feel people need to spend time apart in order to grow. We had to almost go on our own journey and grow. I am really happy in my career now and my endeavour. I don’t know if I would be able to do that if I didn’t really take some time for myself and figure out what the hell was going on with me, because I wasn’t okay.”
Francia expressed her pride in Selena for speaking out about mental health. She acknowledged their shared experiences and how Selena's advocacy has raised awareness. Francia also shared that she is currently on her own journey of opening up about her struggles with mental health. She looks to Selena for guidance on navigating this process and was inspired by Selena's openness. This gave Francia the courage to start sharing with her own audience.
