Selena Gomez Opens Up About Facing Body-Shaming Comments By People, Says, 'I've Dealt With Lot..'

Selena Gomez is a popular singer and actor, who has built a huge fanbase for herself by her talent. Recently, she has been generating a lot of buzz for the new season of her show, Only Murders in the Building, which was released on September 9, 2025. Amid all the love, the Calm Down singer opened up about facing body-shaming comments on social media and how she dealt with it.

Recently, the Only Murders in the Building actress, Selena Gomez sat down for an honest conversation with Allure, in which she mentioned that she has dealt with people calling her fat and explained that she is very sensitive towards that. She mentioned that those insecurities led her to take dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT). She continued to say that DBT is like a talk therapy for people, who experience emotions intensely and that helped her in good ways. She said:

"I’ve dealt with a lot of weight issues in my life, and that’s something I’m very sensitive to. I got stung by a person saying I was fat. Why is that coming up? Oh, now I understand; that’s stemming from that one time when I was going through some medical stuff and I had gained weight."

Selena Gomez can’t watch her own documentary anymore

Apart from talking about facing body-shaming comments, the singer also opened up about being diagnosed with lupus in 2013. She spoke about the documentary made on her, Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me, and mentioned that she can’t watch it anymore. While talking about trolls, Selena explained that people don’t wait, they straight away jump to bring the other person down. In her words: 

"I deal with a lot of (dexterity issues) myself, and it can get frustrating. Even just popping open a can can hurt. I’m very glad it came out, but that’s not necessarily who I am now. To be honest, I can’t watch it. But it’s only because I’m not there anymore. It was like they couldn’t wait to find a thing to bring me down."

The popular singer and actor, Selena Gomez, is also making headlines as she is all set to get married to her longtime boyfriend, Benny Blanco. In December 2024, she shared her engagement news on her Instagram handle and the fans can’t wait to see her getting married. Amid that, she shared that her relationship with Benny has brought peace in her life. She was quoted as saying:

"I don’t think I would have been remotely mature enough. It’s weird to think that only five years ago I wouldn’t have been in the right place, but I’ve learned so many lessons that led me to being the best partner I could be for Benny. He’ll say, gosh, why did we waste so much time? And I always say, you wouldn’t have liked me back then. I was all over the place."
