The actor has appeared in over 100 films in his nearly three-decades-long career and has given several memorable performances over the years. One such memorable role played by him was in Rakesh Roshan's directorial Karan Arjun. Shah Rukh Khan admitted he didn't understand the storyline of Karan Arjun

Rakesh Roshan has often revealed how he initially wanted to cast Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn in the film, but they were keen to interchange the roles, which didn't feel right to the filmmaker. But, later, when he approached Salman, SRK agreed to do the role decided for him. However, in one of the initial scenes Rakesh Roshan explained to him that two kids were born, they were supposed to be shown glancing at each other and shaking hands, which seemed irrelevant to the actor. Shah Rukh explained:

“Mujhe laga mazaak kar rahe hain Rakesh ji. Maine bola, ‘Aisa thode hota hai, Rakesh ji. Chote bachche thode na haath pakad lenge.’ He said, ‘Nahi, aur uspe aayega Karan Arjun.’ Toh mujhe from that day mujhe film samajh nahi aayi.”
