Shah Rukh Khan Reveals Why His Mother Would Apply Henna On His Palm When He Was A Kid [Video]

The celebrities are often trolled for not doing their bit as privileged stars in times of need but what we don't know is everyone contributes in whatever way they can and not always publicize it. The rightful King of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan beats the popularity of any other star on this planet, and he has often proved that he is not only the silver screen’s heartthrob but a hero in real life too! Shah Rukh comes from a middle-class family and his journey from being a commoner to becoming the biggest star in Bollywood might be the reason behind his humbleness.

From helping cancer patients to acid attack victims, this silent charity maker has reached out his hand to people from all walks of life. Shah Rukh Khan founded Meer Foundation in 2013 that aims to help women, who have been treated unfairly, by creating a network of support. Meer Foundation recognises that women are not defined by the effects of acid attacks. They stand by their side as the survivors cross hurdles in their journey to a normal life. Back then, announcing the name of his foundation, Shah Rukh had tweeted, “A foundation I named after my father - @MeerFoundation - aims to create a network of support for women. No better day than #FathersDay for me to introduce our website to the world.”

Meer Foundation hosted a virtual meet of Shah Rukh Khan with the acid attack survivors and while engaging in a casual tete-a-tete, King Khan recalled a childhood memory of his Delhi days. Recalling a fond memory of how his mother used to apply henna on his palms during Delhi summers, Shah Rukh said, “Bachpan mein seriously bata raha hoon... meri mummy lagati thi mujhko. Ghar mein, Dilli mein garmi hoti thi. So, they used to say thodi mehendi lagao toh garmi zyada nahi hoti. To aise round bana deti thi meri mummy yaha pe," showing the centre of his palm where his mother would apply mehendi. A clip of the conversation on Meer Foundation's official IG handle was captioned as "Acid attack survivors get candid with @iamsrk | E-meet with Meer Foundation #MeerFoundation hosted a virtual meet for our acid attack survivors, along with @iamsrk, & their excitement transcended beyond the screen. It's the first of many endeavours #ToGETherStronger & empowered this 2021."

Back in 2019, Shah Rukh Khan had started an initiative, ToGETher Transformed, which focuses on getting corrective surgeries done for acid attack victims. Shah Rukh had met the acid attack victims in March 2019 and sharing a collage with them, he had tweeted, “All of u please put ur hands in prayer...and say Bhagwan inki zindagi ki nayi shuruaat mein...inpar karam karna...May God have mercy on them...Insha Allah. These r my sisters & need ur prayers for recovery, without distinguishing between the mode of prayer.”

Meer Foundation and Shah Rukh Khan

It was in March 2021 when Shah Rukh Khan had visited his parents, late Meer Taj Mohammed Khan and late Lateef Fatima Khan’s graves in Delhi. Wearing a white shirt and black pants with his head covered, Shah Rukh had offered prayers and paid his respects to his parents. Shah Rukh was 15 when his father passed away and 26 when he lost his mother. Once in an interview with Rani Mukerji, Shah Rukh had said, “The empty house without my parents used to come to bite us. The loneliness, pain and sadness of the loss of both my parents, could have been overwhelming enough to take over my life wholly.”

In a throwback interview with The Times Of India, Shah Rukh Khan had spoken about visiting his late parents’ graveyard in Delhi and the fond memories he has with Delhi. Revealing why Delhi can never go out of him, Shah Rukh had said, “Whenever I sit on a plane to come to Delhi, be it for a day or for a couple of hours, the one thought I have is that my mother and father are here. I go and visit them at the graveyard late in the night. People often tell me that I have become a Mumbaikar but I don’t know how to express but Delhi can never go out of me because my parents are here and that is the biggest memory for me.”
