It is a known fact that Shah Rukh Khan is a Muslim, and his wife, Gauri Chibba was a Punjabi. However, their love had broken all the barriers of religion and the resistance from her parents. For the unversed, Shah Rukh and Gauri had met each other in Delhi at a party in 1988, where the Cupid had struck them. Shah Rukh was so much in love with Gauri that he had followed her to Mumbai, and a few days later, had found her on the seashore of Mumbai while looking for her.
To be with Gauri Chibba, Shah Rukh Khan had left Delhi and had shifted to Mumbai. Later, on October 25, 1991, Shah Rukh Khan had tied the knot with Gauri Chibba. While everyone is aware of their love story, not many know that Gauri Khan’s family was totally against their union. In fact, Gauri Khan’s brother, Vikrant Chibba had also threatened Shah Rukh Khan with a gun to leave his sister.

In the book, King of Bollywood: Shah Rukh Khan and the Seductive World of Indian Cinema, journalist, Anupama Chopra had shared the struggles Shah Rukh had faced to marry his childhood sweetheart, Gauri. Even though Shah Rukh was an established actor after his successful television show, Fauji, he had faced rejection from Gauri’s parents.
Gauri’s father, Ramesh Chibba, who was working with former President of India, Zakir Hussain, had viewed the glamour world in a bad light. Ramesh had more problems with Shah Rukh’s acting career than his religion. On the other hand, Gauri’s mother, Savita Chibba ‘hated’ Shah Rukh Khan as a prospective partner for her daughter. She loved watching him on screen, but never wanted him for Gauri. She had even consulted astrologers to break SRK and Gauri’s alliance.

Out of all, it was Gauri’s elder brother, Vikrant Chibba, who had the most outrageous reaction to her relationship with Shah Rukh. Vikrant wasn’t happy with his sister’s choice of partner and had rather threatened Shah Rukh with a Gun. In the book, Anupama Chopra had mentioned:
“Vikrant had a reputation of being a goonda (thug). He threatened Shah Rukh with a gun, but the posturing didn’t scare his sister’s suitor.”
During Tehelka magazine’s Think 2012 event, Shah Rukh Khan had revealed that he had once confronted a journalist for publishing a rumour of his affair with a co-star. During that time he was filming for Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa in 1993, two years after his wedding with Gauri Khan. He had revealed that Gauri was concerned if she had made a mistake marrying a film star and if she will have to worry about his affairs with female co-stars.
Shah Rukh had recalled showing up at the journalist’s door and behaving badly with him. He had taken the sword given to him by his father-in-law to protect Gauri. He had said:
“I behaved very badly. I was jailed. My father-in-law had given me a sword, as they do in Punjabi weddings. I carried that sword to that journalist's house. My father-in-law, who is an army officer, said, ‘Son, you have to protect my daughter’. Nobody was saying anything to his daughter but I thought this is a good weapon, sanctioned by the Indian Army.”
Shah Rukh Khan had stabbed the journalist in his legs with the ‘sword’ which was a ‘kukri, and came back after the incident on the sets of Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. A day later, a few cops had shown up on the sets and had taken him to the police station.
Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan have been married for 30 years now!
