Shahid says that he had to understand the mentality of people from small towns and cities to ace his role

Moving further in the conversation, Shahid elaborated on how he had to take a closer look into the life and manners of people, who belong to small cities and towns, to understand his character better in the film, Vivah. Calling it a first-hand experience for him, Shahid mentioned that in order to understand their mindset, he had to grow through the reality faced by those people. In his words:

“We don’t really understand people in smaller cities and smaller towns, their life, their mindset, so you have to go through that journey, and to connect with people you have to understand them. If you want to touch their heart, you’ve to be able to understand their feelings, their circumstances, and their reality. If you can’t understand that, you’ll never be able to connect with them and this was my first-hand experience.”

When Shahid recalled being called mad for being stubborn about wearing glasses for Jab We Met

In one of his earlier interactions with Film Companion, Shahid Kapoor recalled a peculiar anecdote from the sets of his film, Jab We Met. The actor mentioned how he fought with everyone in the sets for just being allowed to wear glasses for the character of ‘Aditya Kashyap’ in the film. He mentioned being discouraged by many, as they supposed that heroes of a film do not wear glasses. On the contrary, Shahid had to make everyone understand that for a character like ‘Aditya’ who contemplated suicide in the first scene of the film, the pair of glasses would work as an enhanced factor.
