Shalini Passi became an overnight sensation with her stint on Netflix’s popular reality show, Fabulous Lives Vs Bollywood Wives. Her quirky personality and fearlessness in being herself at all times instantly won over fans, who couldn’t stop quoting her iconic mantras from the show. Recently, the art connoisseur and philanthropist expressed her view on the difference in safety between Delhi and Mumbai.
Shalini Passi recently sat down for a candid chat with Hauterrfly, during which she shared her views on a variety of topics, including safety in Delhi versus Mumbai. The interview asked her if Delhi had always been as fearful as it now is for women, to which she honestly admitted that things had been different before.
According to Shalini, the explosion in population was part of the reason why Delhi was more unsafe now. Talking about the huge migration problem, Shalini said:
"Basically, problem yahi hai ki infrastructure nahi hai, facilities kam hai, toh sab log city ke taraf aate hai. Uss se bhi bohot farak padta hai."
Further in the interview, Shalini narrated a hilarious anecdote about her son, Robin Passi’s reaction to finding out she had a 5 o’clock curfew. According to Shalini, when she made the revelation to Robin, his immediate reaction was to call his ‘nani’ cool. However, she then clarified that she meant 5 PM and not 5 AM. In her words:
"Allowed nahi hota tha na bahar jana. Mene ek din apne bete ko bola ki mera deadline hota 5 baje ka. Toh usne kaha, ‘Waah mumma, nani’s so cool. Aap ka deadline tha 5 baje?’ Toh mene kaha 5 AM nahi, 5 PM."
The interviewer further asked Shalini about the places she would go to chill until her 5 PM deadline. However, the art patron stated that she didn’t really have any such places, nor had she been the type to lie around on a couch. Shalini stated that she had always had a hyperproductive mind, so if she has 4 or 5 hours with nothing to do, she would immediately start getting anxious.

The interviewer then asked Shalini Passi if she felt Mumbai was safer than Delhi since she had been there several times. The diva admitted that people often made claims about women in Mumbai being able to wear whatever they wanted and go out late at night. However, in Shalini’s perspective, both cities were the same. She also noted that some of ‘the safest cities in the world’ had now become unsafe.
In the same interview, Shalini Passi recalled being called bhenji for her choice of clothing. She revealed that when she was growing up, she used to wear suits, as she attended a lot of dance classes. So, people would comment on her style statement. In Shalini’s words:
"We used to wear a lot of school, as we had a lot of dance classes. Toh sometimes people would say, 'You are bhenji and all. You are wearing a suit.'"
