Shamita Shetty Expresses Frustration On Being Trolled For Age, Relationship Status, 'Best To Ignore'

Shamita Shetty, who is the younger sister of the popular Bollywood actress, Shilpa Shetty, rose to immense popularity in the 2000s with her role in films like Mohabbatein, Bewafaa, and Zeher. After making a splash in the Hindi film industry, she tried her hands in TV reality shows as well. Shamita has been a part of Bigg Boss, Khatron Ke Khiladi and Jhalak Dikhla Jaa. Moreover, she kept her passion for interior design alive along with her acting profession. However, the actress-turned-interior designer is not married yet, and people often troll her for the same reason.

Shamita Shetty says it is best to ignore trolls, but sometimes one needs to speak for oneself

Recently, Shamita Shetty called out a troll who took a dig at her for being single. She gave a befitting reply to that woman and wished for positivity in her life. Now, in an interview with the Hindustan Times, the actress opened up about such negativity in social media. While she suggested ignoring them most of the time, one should definitely speak up in order to defend oneself. She said:

“It’s usually best to ignore trolls to protect your mental health because arguing with them just makes things worse. Trolls want attention, so responding only encourages them. But sometimes, you need to speak up to defend yourself or others. Trolling can really get you down, especially when they say hurtful things. To cope, focus on staying positive and taking care of yourself. That’s key to dealing with the negative impact of trolling on your well-being.”

Shamita Shetty says she has remained resilient despite facing many challenges

In the same interview, Shamita mentioned that personal intrusion is indeed one of the disadvantages of being a public figure. The actress said that this continuous exposure to unsolicited opinions can sometimes be emotionally taxing, and challenging to navigate through it. However, she added that her family has been her biggest support during all the tough times in her life, and despite undergoing loads of challenges, she still remained resilient. She said:

“Firstly, my family’s support is invaluable, as they prioritise my happiness over societal pressures. Additionally, having battled depression, I understand the importance of daily efforts to maintain happiness and avoid triggers. Despite facing obstacles in my career, I remain resilient, concentrating on gratitude for what I have. I maintain faith in my journey and focus on staying positive amidst difficulties.”

Shamita Shetty highlights the importance of family’s support

Shamita Shetty highlighted that there is now a change in how people view relationships and marriages. She also emphasised that families should support their own to follow their dreams rather than getting into forced marriages. The actress said that people should get married only when they have found genuine love. She said:

“There’s a change in how people view relationships and marriage. Nowadays, it’s common to see couples who may not prioritise loyalty or respect in their relationships. Finding someone willing to work through problems and stay committed is tougher now. Family support matters a lot—if they encourage you to follow your dreams rather than pressure you into marriage, it’s better for everyone. Marriage shouldn’t be rushed into just because of societal norms; it should be based on respect and genuine love to ensure lasting happiness.”
