Kareena had once stated that they are not typical saas-bahu jodi of the 90s and she loves to spend time with Sharmila ji. In a throwback interview with a leading portal, Kareena had stated, “For me, my mother-in-law will always be the eternal begum, a career-oriented woman who started a family, who ran the house, looked after three children but yet worked in the biggest commercial successes as well as some great serious cinema. She kind of always tried to balance everything. To me she still is and still looks super gorgeous. Right from the beginning till now, I can’t take my eyes off her. I look up to her in every way, so for me she will always be that.” (Suggested Read: Shweta Tiwari Reveals Her Daughter, Palak Tiwari's Reaction On Her On-Screen Kiss)
Sharmila ji is a hands-on mother and has given her kids the best of everything. In an interview with the DNA, Sharmila ji had revealed how she often gives advice to her daughter, Soha, on motherhood and had shared, "Of course I do, as all mothers would. Like my mother used to do when I was carrying Saif. I remember when Saif was a baby, the paediatrician had recommended that we give him orange juice to drink, but my mother said he was too small to be able to digest it and that I should dilute it with some water. I didn’t listen and Saif had a tummy-ache. I guess mothers do sometimes know best and it’s also the experience that counts. Yes, Soha does call me to ask for advice on what to do and I do advise her, but I also tell her to follow it up only after checking with the physician."
Grandparents are always supportive of their grandchildren and guide them in every path of their life. When Saif Ali Khan’s daughter, Sara Ali Khan had made her Bollywood debut with the movie, Kedarnath, her ‘badi amma’, Sharmila ji was all praises of her. In a post-Kedarnath interview, Sara had revealed how her dadi, Sharmila had reacted after watching her first film. Sara had remarked, “Dadi is extremely proud. She is getting a lot of messages from people and she messaged mom which was a big one for me. I think dadi messaging mom, after you know... life, that we have, that was really something. That's amazing. If as a character, you can bring audiences together and as an individual you can bring your family together for 30 seconds also, that's something."
