Sharmila Tagore Recalls Getting Threats Before Her Marriage, Reveals, 'Bullets Shall Speak'

Sharmila Tagore Recalls Getting Threats Before Her Marriage, Reveals, 'Bullets Shall Speak'

Sharmila Tagore and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi got married on December 27, 1968, in a traditional Islamic wedding ceremony. Their marriage is known for being a successful inter-faith union and is one of India's most enduring and successful celebrity marriages. However, their marriage faced some oppositions initially due to religious differences, but the couple's love and commitment towards each other prevailed, and they went on to have a happy and successful marriage. In a recent interview, Sharmila Tagore revealed that she used to receive anonymous threats before their marriage.

In a recent interview with Barkha Dutt, actress, Sharmila Tagore opened up about receiving death threats before marrying Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. The Sawan Ki Ghata actress further mentioned that her parents were getting threats on Telegram. However, the wedding and reception somehow took place. Talking about the same, Sharmila said:

"In Kolkata, when I was getting married, my parents were getting telegrams saying that bullets shall speak. And Tiger's family was also getting… they were getting a little worried."

Sharmila shared that the wedding and reception were somehow managed and nothing untoward happened. In the same interview, Sharmila Tagore also talked about revealing the news of their marriage to their respective parents. After sharing details about the same, she said:

"We just announced to our respective parents that we want to get married and that was that. He carried on with his cricket and I carried on with my films."

Speaking with Barkha Dutt, Sharmila also recalled that even after marrying Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, she met two strangers in Mumbai who came from Delhi to give protection to her. Elaborating on the same, she stated:

 "And they said Delhi has sent us. We are from the CBI or something and do you need protection? I said what for? I mean I'm fine. Delhi thought I needed protection."

A few days back, in an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Sharmila Tagore recalled when people asked her how her husband, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, allowed her to work in films, even after their marriage. The actress admitted that it was quite normal to hear such questions from people because, in that era, women weren't even allowed to study. Recalling the same, Sharmila shared:

"I had a lot of support from my family, my husband, who always gave me space, always supported me in everything. I didn't have to explain myself. So I had that kind of support. I have been very blessed with that. My mother wasn't allowed to go to a co-ed university, she had to do her MA privately. I have been asked, 'How did your husband allow you to work after you got married'. Things are changing. We are going forward."

On the work front, Sharmila Tagore will return to acting with her upcoming film, Gulmohar.
