Sharmila Tagore Reveals Her Kids Got Used To The Fakeness Of The Film Industry Early In Their Lives

In a recent candid chat, veteran actress, Sharmila Tagore opened up about certain unknown anecdotes from her life, concerning her kids, Saif, Soha and Saba.

Sharmila Tagore Reveals Her Kids Got Used To The Fakeness Of The Film Industry Early In Their Lives

Veteran actress, Sharmila Tagore was married to the love of her life, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. Together, they were blessed with three kids, Saif Ali Khan, Saba Ali Khan and Soha Ali Khan. However, during Saif, Soha and Saba's childhood, Sharmila was a working mother and spent a huge amount of time on the sets. Thus, her kids also got quite acquainted with her profession and the pros and cons of it. Now, in a recent candid chat, Sharmila and her daughters mentioned how the former had made them used to the 'fakeness' of the film industry.

Sharmila Tagore says Saif Ali Khan was once pulling out his real eyelashes, while mimicking his mommy

Sharmila Tagore graced one of the show's episodes, Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai, along with her daughters, Soha Ali Khan and Saba Ali Khan. During the candid chat over there, the doting mommy talked about how her son, Saif Ali Khan would try to mimic her post her work, make-up removal routine. She mentioned that in the film industry, neither tears nor eyelashes are real. Thus, once she noticed how Saif was trying to pull out his eyelashes to mimic his mommy, she added:

“I used to come back and take off my false eyelashes. I came back once and saw Saif trying to pull out his eyelashes as well! I said for God’s sake don’t do that,. They got used to the fakeness of it quite quickly."

Sharmila reveals she reduced her work when Soha and Saba were born

Further, Sharmila mentioned how she was continuously working after Saif was born. However, in the same conversation, the loving mother also expressed that her work time was reduced when her daughters were born. So, explaining how there was no film atmosphere in their home post the birth of Saba and Soha, Sharmila said:

“I was doing two-shifts in a day and sometimes I would not see him three-four days in a row. But by the time my daughters were born, I wasn’t working that much, so there wasn’t any filmy atmosphere at home.”

Saba Ali Khan reveals how Sharmila told her that the tears in the film were glycerin

Soon, Sharmila's daughter also talked along the same lines as her mother. Soha revealed that this was why she didn’t see her mommy's “film side”. Neither have they seen Sharmila getting up and going to work at 5 in the morning. Further, Saba added that once, when she was taken aback after watching her mother's tears on-screen, Sharmila explained that those tears were nothing real and were only glycerin. Soha recalled:

“We were taken aback to see her cry profusely. She told us that was glycerin! That’s when we realised that there is something like fake crying as well! That she was ok, there was nothing wrong with Amma."

Sharmila Tagore revealed she did films to pay her rent

For the unversed, Sharmila Tagore began her acting journey at the age of 13 by making her debut in Bengali cinema with the critically acclaimed film, Apur Sansar, directed by Satyajit Ray. Later, she debuted in the Hindi film industry in 1964 with the film, Kashmir Ki Kali. After working rigorously for the longest period of time, she took a hiatus of 13 years. Finally, Sharmila returned to the silver screen with the OTT film, Gulmohar, in 2023. However, in an old interview with News18, Sharmila revealed the reasons behind working in films during the initial days of her career. The gorgeousness shared that she had to work rigorously to pay her rent and said:

“As professionals, we worked in films, sometimes for money and sometimes just so that we could pay the house rent. Sometimes we do a film because our colleague felt that it would be good for him if I was a part of his film.”
