'I Gave It A Lot..' Shefali Shah Once Talked About Bitter Divorce From Harsh Chhaya

Harsh Chhaya was the talk of the nation when his old, now-deleted Facebook post resurfaced on the internet. The post talked about a divorced actor couple, and netizens started speculating if it was aimed at his former wife, Shefali Shah, who is a famous Bollywood actress, known for her hit OTT roles. Amidst it, Shefali's old interview talking about her divorce resurfaced.

Shefali Shah on her failed marriage with Harsh Chhaya

It was during the shooting of her film, Satya, that Shefali fell head over heels in love with Harsh. The two dated for a brief period and decided to get married in 1997. After four years of living together, the two ended up in a bitter divorce. Back in those days, the two admitted that the divorce was a bitter one and they had seen the ugly side of each other.

In an interview with Pinkvilla, Shefali shared her side of the story. She admitted to giving a long chunk of her life to her first marriage. She stated that she believed marriages were all about happily-ever-after. However, she quickly realised that it is not necessary that it will work out. After a point of constant difficult days, she decided what was better. She admitted that she gave the relationship a lot of time, and it was bad that it didn't work out. She was quoted as saying:

"I have given a long long chunk of life to that relationship. I worked very hard and I used to believe that marriages are happily ever after until you realise okay that’s a norm, it’s a notion. That’s not necessarily work in life. It was not that whole phase that wasn't making me richer or happier, sane or person. And after point of time you just realise what is better for you which is better for everyone around. So, not for a second did I think it was because I gave it a lot of time and everything I had in me. And it didn’t work out, it didn’t work out. It’s just too bad. Why ppl make hue and cry about it." 

During an interview with the Hindustan Times, Shefali Shah's ex-husband, Harsh Chhaya, also shared his side of the story. He admitted that he had seen the divorce coming, and it was a bitter one.

Coming back to Harsh Chhaya's old post, he didn't name anyone, but the timing of it and the emotions it had made netizens wonder if it was directed at his ex-wife. In the message without naming the couple, he revealed that the two parted ways around 25 to 30 years ago. As per the post, one partner chose to shut the chapter and move on. On the other hand, the other one continued revisiting the pain of the marriage years later. While it could be just a generic post, many believe that it had a lot of meaning and bore his situation.

After a bitter divorce from Harsh, Shefali restarted her life with the film producer, Vipul Amrutlal Shah. The duo had married each other in December 2000. The couple is blessed with two sons — Marya and Aryaman. It has been 25 years, and Shefali and Vipul try to keep love alive in their marriage.
