His abrupt termination from the position after his engagement in an “inappropriate relationship” with a university staff member is now dominating all headlines. And now, the firing incident has spiralled into one of the year's most chaotic football scandals, raising serious questions about the accountability of college football. 

After cheating allegations and unverified link-ups with his former assistant Paige Shiver, the latest buzz links Moore to Sean “Diddy” Combs, the now-infamous rapper whose legal troubles have long dominated national news. 

Why was Sherrone Moore arrested?

Sherrone Moore, 39, was fired “for cause” on December 10, 2025, after investigators determined he had engaged in an illicit relationship with a staff member. Just hours later, ESPN reported he had been arrested. Saline police located and detained him before transferring him to the Pittsfield Township Police Department for an “investigation into potential charges.” Officials have not revealed why he was taken into custody, and it remains unclear what charges, if any, he may ultimately face.

Moore’s old tweet from Diddy’s party resurfaces, and now, netizens have questions

Amid the growing controversy, an old tweet from May 4, 2018, has resurfaced, though the renewed attention is based on speculation alone. Because the rapper has been tied to multiple scandals, anyone even loosely associated with him often faces renewed scrutiny when trouble erupts, and Moore has become the latest example.

In the resurfaced tweet, Sherrone Moore raved about a Paris trip as he hyped up a Kentucky Derby weekend kickoff party hosted by none other than Diddy. The now-viral tweet reads:

“Off to the ville for the weekend to enjoy the #KentuckyDerby Festivities! @trifectagala hosted by @Diddy tonight to start it off! #BonjourBlue #CantStopWontStop”

Though the message was harmless at the time, with Diddy now convicted on two counts related to trafficking individuals for prostitution (amid acquisition of more severe racketeering charges), fans have now seized the coincidence. Amid Moore’s growing list of scandals, allegedly involving the forced abortion of an illegitimate child with Paige Shiver, users are calling the Diddy connection yet another sign of the ex-head coach’s questionable judgment.

There is no evidence whatsoever that Moore had any personal relationship with Diddy beyond attending an event the artist hosted. The tweet resurfaced purely because of timing, and because internet sleuths are combing through every part of Moore’s past. Still, reactions continue pouring in on the post. One user noted, “There were signs”, while another wrote, “It’s all making sense”. A third user joked, “Coach, I am from the future, this will not age well.”

Moore’s 'deleted texts' scandal is back in the spotlight

Sherrone Moore’s permanent dismissal comes months after he was suspended for two games in the 2025 season for deleting text messages linked to ex-staffer Connor Stalions during the sign-stealing scandal. NCAA investigators found Moore had erased a 52-message exchange with Stalions from the same day Stalions was exposed for organizing an illicit in-person scouting network. Officials later recovered the texts through device imaging and provided them to NCAA enforcement. 

The recovered messages raised further questions about Moore’s role in the scheme, and the deletions led to a Level II violation allegation. Michigan self-imposed a two-game suspension in 2025, and the NCAA added another for the 2026 opener. During his absences, assistant Biff Poggi served as interim head coach.

With Moore permanently out, associate head coach Biff Poggi has been appointed the program’s interim head coach for the Citrus Bowl against Texas, scheduled for December 31, 2025. This marks the third coaching transition in Michigan within four years, an alarming turnover for one of the most respected programs in the nation. 

While nothing has been confirmed yet, the name that’s already gaining traction regarding the new coaching search is Adam Stenavich, the Green Bay Packers' offensive coordinator and former Michigan lineman under Lloyd Carr. Given his impressive profile and his role in quarterback Jordan Love’s success, multiple outlets have reported that Stenavich is prepared for the opportunity if approached.

With his cheating scandal, firing, involvement in the sign-stealing case, and now, a Diddy connection, Moore’s scandal saga is far from over.
