The most controversial talk show, Koffee With Karan has ignited many feuds in Bollywood, courtesy of the unfiltered statements and confessions of the celebrities. Out of all the hottest topics of discussion, the debate around nepotism in Bollywood leads all the charts. While many think that it was actress, Kangana Ranaut, who ignited it on the show, but actually Shilpa Shetty had already addressed the topic first in the most subtle manner.
Recently, an old video of Shilpa Shetty surfaced on social media wherein she was seen taking a subtle dig at Karan Johar for encouraging nepotism. Shared by a Reddit user, the video was from the actress' appearance on the show, Koffee With Karan, wherein she was talking about her career graph with Karan Johar. In the video, Shilpa mentioned that she never got the support of big production houses in Bollywood despite working for ages in showbiz. She said:
“I have been working since 17, and I may not have had the Karan Johars and the Yash Chopras backing me.”
Then Karan Johar mentioned that Shilpa had a whole lot of repertoire of films like Dhadkan and Phir Milenge in her kitty at that time, no matter whether she had any support or not. However, Karan's statement didn't go well with Shilpa, and she was quick to point out that it was her comeback. She was heard saying:
“That was my comeback.”
Karan Johar further went on to mention how most of Shilpa Shetty's films performed well at the box office. Shilpa was quick to retort that when her movie, Dhadkan did well, she tried to reinvent herself by doing something different again with the film, Rishtey. However, people and the media left no stone unturned to degrade her and make her feel bad. In Shilpa's words:
“Dhadkan did very well. After that, I tried to reinvent myself by doing something different again with Rishtey. But very conveniently, people forgot about all of that and degraded my body of work. I don’t know why. Either the media take it upon themselves to make me feel bad.”
However, soon Karan Johar pointed out how Shilpa was getting much-deserved recognition and praise after her stint in the movie, Big Brother. The director further added that people, who might have ignored her in the past, have suddenly come back and given her the desired importance. Well, Shilpa gave a beautiful response to it and shared the lesson that her mother, Sunanda Shetty taught her. She said:
“My mother has taught us Chanakyaniti – kill with sweetness.”
