He had to reportedly undergo a minor surgery to repair his spleen. Now, there is good news for Shreyas' fans as he has been discharged from the hospital in Sydney.

According to a report by India Today, Shreyas Iyer got discharged from a hospital in Sydney after he had to undergo a small procedure following a rib and spleen injury. His recovery rate has been steady, and the Indian Cricket Board confirmed on November 1, 2025, that Shreyas had been discharged from the hospital.

When will Shreyas Iyer return to India after the spleen injury?

The report also stated that Shreyas was scheduled to fly back to India after he was declared fit by the medical team. However, the cricketer will be out of the game for at least two months. Shreyas will be in Sydney for follow-up consultations before he is sent back to India and declared fit to fly. Shreyas will be monitored under the guidance of Dr Kouroush Haghighi, and Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala from India is also showing support.

The BCCI earlier expressed its gratitude to Dr Kouroush Haghighi and his full team, as well as to Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala from India. The team of doctors ensured that Shreyas is under the best care and receives good medical care. BCCI had released an official statement on the cricketer and shared:

"Shreyas Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen while fielding during the third ODI against Australia on October 25, 2025, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding. The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested following a minor procedure. He has undergone appropriate medical management for the same."

The board also expressed gratitude to the entire medical team in Sydney for ensuring that Shreyas received the best medical attention and possible care for his spleen injury. Earlier, team India captain, Suryakumar Yadav dropped an update related to Shreyas' condition and shared that he was doing well and also replying to the messages that were sent to him by his teammates. Shreyas was stable, out of the ICU, and recently tweeted about his journey to recovery. His tweet read:

"I'm currently in recovery process and getting better, every passing day. I'm deeply grateful to see all the kind wishes and support I've received - it truly means a lot. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts."

How did Shreyas Iyer get an injury?

Shreyas wanted to dismiss Alex Carey, and for the same reason took a brilliant back while he was running backwards. In the same incident, Shreyas injured his left rib cage and then fainted in the changing room. Shreyas' vital parameters were pretty low, and then was taken to the hospital. Scans showed that he received a laceration injury to the spleen. BCCI earlier had also confirmed that Shreyas' condition was stable and shared:

"The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested. His condition is now stable, and he continues to be under observation. A repeat scan done on Tuesday, 28th October, has shown significant improvement, and Shreyas is on the road to recovery. The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, will continue to monitor his progress."
