Actress, Shruti Haasan was born to industry legends Kamal Haasan and Sarika. The adoring daughter recently opened up about the values her parents instilled in her even as a child. Reflecting on her childhood, Shruti recalled being raised comfortably. However, she did recount her mother, Sarika being 'extra strict' out of fear that her daughter would turn out spoilt due to her upbringing in a 'big home with many cars.'
Shruti Haasan recently appeared for a candid interaction with Pinkvilla. During the same, she opened up about her mum, Sarika being "extra strict" while raising Shruti. The legendary actress feared that her daughter might turn out 'spoilt' due to her rather cushy upbringing. Revealing that she received no pocket money as a child, Shruti recounted:
"There was no concept of pocket money. I had to earn everything. Because mummy always feared that with such a big house, so many cars, the kids will get spoiled. So she was extra strict."
During the chat, Shruti also narrated a humorous anecdote about her birthdays while still in school. The actress revealed that her mother, Sarika would send chikki balls as birthday treats for her schoolmates, while her friends would bring fancy chocolates. Talking about how her classmates would then tease her, Shruti laughed and recalled:
"I used to be so embarrassed. I used to be told in school, 'we thought your father was an actor! And you got this sweet?' It was really embarrassing. My mum was really down to earth."
Further in the interview, Shruti Haasan vehemently denied ever asking her dad, Kamal Haasan for favours or using her privilege to land jobs. The actress quick-wittedly stated that the only privilege she has ever enjoyed because of her surname is that she could sometimes cut ahead in queues at the airport. Shruti further added that she was 'too independent' and the idea of wielding her privilege in such a manner made her feel sick.
Shruti Haasan also revealed that despite her privileged background, she had never asked her parents, Kamal Haasan and Sarika for financial help. The actress firmly stated that she has been independent since the day she started earning. Shruti noted that she understood why people felt her dad, Kamal had bought her house and other possessions. However, she clarified that these were major misconceptions. In Shruti's words:

"I haven't taken a single penny from anybody since the time I was 21. So when people say that (he bought a house for her, etc) I understand why they are saying it. But that is a big misconception. If you ask my parents, I have never taken a penny from them. Whatever I am today and everything I have today, I have done it with their blessings, their name, and the wonderful people I have worked with in the industry. But everything I own, people may say that my father bought me a new car, but no I got it myself."
Shruti Haasan may have had a very comfortable childhood, given her good fortune of being born into an artistic family. However, that's not to say that she has never experienced tough times. In the same conversation with Pinkvilla, she discussed her parents' painful divorce during her early years of adulthood and reflected on the lessons it taught her. She stated that the challenging situation completely altered her worldview, making her realise the value of financial and personality-dependent independence.
