Meet Casting Director, Shruti Mahajan: How A Bank HR Became One Of India's Leading Casting Agent?

Shruti Mahajan is the name that has been echoing in the corridors of the Bollywood industry recently. She is currently one of the most in-demand casting directors in the entertainment industry. Whether we talk about films or web series, she has proved the mettle of her casting in almost every genre of the streaming platform. 

Meet famous casting director, Shruti Mahajan: She once used to work as a HR in a bank

Shruti Mahajan’s last big project was Prakash Jha’s Ek Badnaam Aashram, whose season 3 part 2 premiered in February 2025. Before Ek Badnaam Aashram, Shruti Mahajan worked as a casting director for critically acclaimed filmmaker, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s web show, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, Shruti Mahajan has almost 60 projects under her credit. Some of the most recognised projects in her filmography include Bajirao Mastani, Gangubai Kathiawadi, The Big Bull, Padman, Mary Kom, Satyagraha, Ghoomar, Rustom, Lust Stories 2, and many more.

According to a report in India Today, Shruti Mahajan never dreamt of becoming a casting director right from the beginning of her professional career. As per the report, Shruti excelled academically during school and college. After completing his college degree, she worked as an HR in a corporate bank. However, after working in the banking sector for some time, she soon realised that her true calling was in some other work.

In a conversation with the Hindustan Times, Shruti Mahajan revealed that 13-14 years ago, when he was working in the corporate sector, she decided to follow her dream of becoming a filmmaker. After quitting her banking job, she went straight to the office of Yash Raj Films and applied for the position of casting director. Due to her MBA degree in Human Resources, she was hired, and she learnt everything while working at YRF.

So far in her career, Shruti Mahajan has worked with some of the biggest filmmakers in the country, like Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Prakash Jha, R Balki, Alankrita Shrivastava, and many more. Shruti has an Instagram handle by the name “Shruti Mahajan Casting”, and it has 111K followers on it. Time and again, we have seen her sharing posts featuring casting calls for various projects. Apart from her professional life, little is known about her personal life. It is not known whether she is married or not, as she prefers to live a life far from the reach of the media spotlight.
