Shubhangi Atre is one of the most popular TV actresses, best known for playing the role of 'Angoori Bhabi' in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain. She always makes people laugh with her funny antics on-screen. But, behind the world of glitz and glamour, she is a woman who has dealt with significant emotional pain. The actress officially parted ways with her husband, Piyush Poorey, in February 2025 and another tragedy waited for the actress when Piyush died just two months after their divorce in April 2025. In a recent interview, the actress opened up about how she is dealing with the pain after months.
Shubhangi Atre recently sat down for an interview with Bollywood Bubble and shared how the memories of her lifelong relationship with Piyush often flood her mind. She explained that she had spent 17 years of her life with her former husband. During that time, she had completely invested her emotions in that bond. Consequently, it wasn't easy for her to break that bond, but when, despite all her attempts, his alcohol addiction didn't waver, her daughter advised her to take a step. In her words:
“Sab try kar liya tha maine aur woh baat mere haath se nikal chuki thi and mere daughter ne hi mujhe kaha mama this is not healthy for us. You need to come out, kyuku tab tak mere anxiety issues start ho gaye the. I gave my 100% . I loved him and I think utna pyaar kabhi kisi ko pata nahi kar paungi ya nahi."
The Chidiya Ghar actress added that although it has been two months since her ex-husband, Piyush's demise due to liver cirrhosis, she hasn't been able to forget him or their bond. Shubhangi admitted that the whole incident has been tough for her and often triggers her anxiety in a few days. Apart from the situation that led her to part ways with him, she also thinks about their good memories. So, she is just trying to deal with the emotional pain and go on in life. Sharing her feelings, the actress said:
"It's tough, in fact. Anxiety hits every two or three days. Of course, all this happens... and you know, you can't just forget a 17-18-year-long relationship. Good memories come back too, all kinds of memories. But then, that's how it is. You have to deal with it because life goes on. So, you just have to deal with it."
Previously, when Piyush Poorey's demise broke the headlines, several trolls began to criticise Shubhangi for leaving Piyush after gaining fame. However, in an interview with the Times Of India, she explained that it's easy for people to assume something without knowing the facts. But the reality is that after more than 17 years of staying together, she didn't leave him for fame. Rather, it came from years of futile attempts to make Piyush quit his addiction. The actress mentioned that doctors warned her former husband that his addiction would take his life someday if he didn't stop, but no one knew it would come so soon. Shubhangi was quoted as saying:
"I tried everything I could to save my marriage, but it was beyond my control. Even sending him to rehab didn't work. Both our families also tried their best to help him, but addiction destroyed him and affected all of us."
Shubhangi Atre took her first steps in showbiz by shooting for a commercial ad, and after her marriage, she got a role in Kasautii Zindagii Kay. She next portrayed a titular role in Kasturi, which made her a household name. The actress has also worked in TV shows like Chidiya Ghar, and Adhuri Kahaani Hamari, among others. Shubhangi is presently seen in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain! after replacing Shilpa Shinde in April 2016.
