Shubman was born on September 8, 1999, in Punjab's Fazilka. His father, Lakhwinder Singh, was an agriculturist and was his first coach. Shubman Gill's dad, Lakhwinder always wanted his son to be a cricketer

Shubman's dad, Lakhwinder, always wanted Shubman to be a cricketer, but there was a time when he was not fine monetarily. It is said that Shubman's dad had taught him many things about cricket, became his first coach, and took responsibility for training his son. Lakhwinder and his family also moved to Mohali back in 2007 to give Shubman many opportunities. His hard work made noise when, on January 31, 2019, Shubman played for India for the first time in an ODI match against New Zealand.

The reason behind Shubman Gill wearing jersey number 77

Earlier, in an interaction with Star Sports India, Shubman was asked about why his jersey was numbered 77. He was asked why he selected double-digit numbers at a time when cricketers usually like single-digit numbers. Shubman, in response to the question, shared that back when he was playing the U-19 World Cup, he wanted a number 7 jersey, but it was already taken. For this reason, he took number 77, which is two sevens.
