Sia Responds To Child Support Settlement With Ex-Husband Dan Bernad, Posts An Emotional Statement

Sia has been one of the most popular faces in the musical world. Also known as Sia Kate Isobelle Furler, she has worked with record labels like Atlantic and RCA. The singer and songwriter has released ten albums so far, starting with OnlySee in 1977. Her last major project was Reasonable Woman, which was released in 2024 and took the 153rd spot on the US Billboard 200.

Outside the music industry, Sia’s personal life has also grabbed a lot of attention for various reasons. She recently came into the spotlight when her divorce from Dan Bernad was settled. Meanwhile, Sia has now responded to the child support settlement, where she was asked to pay a certain amount. Keep reading to know more!

Sia shares a social media post in response to the child support settlement

Notably, Sia has been told to pay child support of USD 42,500 per month, which was revealed in some legal documents obtained by PEOPLE on April 6, 2026 (ET). Although the documents did not disclose the individual who received the primary custody of Sia and Dan Bernad’s son, the former shared a post on X on April 8, 2026. Sia addressed the fact that the settlement update is being reported by the press. She further stated:

“I’m a sober working mom trying to buy peace. I have primary custody of our son and since I am the only parent earning income I still have to pay California’s incredibly high child support.”

Sia added that although she had to face some tough situations so far, they have taught her how to navigate such issues. She said that these problems also taught her to prioritize her family and avoid absorbing the negativity coming from other individuals.

Sia and Dan Bernad were married for around three years

Reports of Sia and Dan Bernad’s relationship first emerged in December 2021 when they appeared together at the premiere of West Side Story. However, the duo covered their faces at the event, which eventually kept Dan’s identity secret from everyone. Although Sia and Dan exchanged vows in December 2022, they organised another ceremony in Italy in 2023. The duo secretly became the parents of a child named Somersault Wonder Bernad in 2024.

For the unversed, Sia had adopted two more children around six years ago in 2019. While things were going fine between the duo, Sia filed for divorce due to irreconcilable differences in March 2025. Although she was willing to provide visitation rights to Dan, Sia was seeking legal and physical custody of Somersault. 

According to the documents related to the child support settlement, Sia has started paying the amount from April 1, 2026. The payment can be stopped in conditions like death or any other court order. Except for these conditions, the child support will continue until Somersault is 18 or graduates from high school. Sia also has to arrange a USD 5 million life insurance policy to ensure a secure financial future for her child at the same time.
