Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is back with its season two, and fans cannot help their excitement over it. The makers have left no stone unturned in adding major twists and turns to their episodes, and have even added some fresh faces along with the iconic 'Tulsi' and 'Mihir'. As the show progresses, the audience is once again enchanted by Smriti's acting, and the actress herself is reaping the rewards of her efforts as she once again takes her throne as the highest-paid TV actor.
Smriti Irani's return as 'Tulsi Virani' has the entire country ecstatic. The actress marked her on-screen return with the sequel to one of the most popular TV shows, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2, and reports suggest she's charging a massive fee for the same. According to several reports, the actress is taking home a big paycheck of Rs. 14 lakh per episode. Well, this is also a milestone in her professional journey as it makes her the highest-paid actor on Indian television.
Now, in an interview with CNN-News 18, Smriti confirmed the news of being the highest-paid actor on the small screen. However, the actress refrained from disclosing the exact amount. For the unversed, it is said that her contemporaries, such as Anupamaa's Rupali Ganguly, take home approx Rs. 3 lakh per episode. In comparison, Hina Khan gets up to Rs. 2 lakh for an episode. Talking about the numbers, Smriti Irani candidly admitted that she is indeed the highest-paid actress in the TV industry.
In the same conversation, Smriti Irani shared about her journey. The interviewer asked the actress about her struggles as a newcomer who landed the role of 'Tulsi' in 2000, to becoming television's top earner, the actress responded by saying that she can see the glee in the interviewer's face. She noted that people have established a professional benchmark, which is to deliver on history, numbers, and revenue. She elaborated that this was because not everybody who's watching us knows we get to negotiate our contracts as employees. She added:
"I'm a part of a union, so the first thing I do is actually have my union number registered. We are all part of a larger organisation and flow of work. For one person to stand up and say listen, not only pay parity, I beat the boys and the girls, and how much I make, that is a lot of hard work."
The actress admitted that she had the capacity to make stars out of others. She added that she knew she could help those who were with her. Smriti concluded by emphasising that such influence comes with responsibility.
