'Maa jaisi' that's the first thought that strikes in our head whenever we hear the word, maasi! True, isn't it? A maasi is just like a half-mother, who has clicked our millions of naked pictures (as a baby, duh-uh!) and proudly treasures in her closet. She is the first one to wish us on our birthdays and encouraged us to achieve our dreams. She believed in us even when our mothers didn't! And the Child Development Minister and a renowned television's face, Smriti Irani happily took on her role as a maasi when her best friend, Ekta Kapoor had welcomed her baby boy, Ravie Kapoor. Ekta Kapoor and Smriti Irani's friendship is not new! And we all know that it all goes back from the time when Smriti ji used to play the sanskaari bahu, Tulsi Virani's role in Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Thi. The show had gained immense popularity and their friendship has grown stronger with the passage of time. When Ekta Kapoor had embraced motherhood (via surrogacy) on January 27, 2019, Smriti ji has happily signed up for the maasi duties. We had once stumbled upon a video, wherein Smriti ji was reading a picture book to cute Ravie. Take a look at it below:
On January 27, 2020, Ekta's son, Ravie turned one and it was his maasi, Smriti ji, who penned an adorable note for him on his Instagram handle. She posted a series of pictures, and wrote, "Your Mom and I sat in silence a year ago waiting for you to come home (for a chatterbox she was quiet & composed ), your Masa freaks out that you are around 2 strong-headed women & hopes we don’t make a rabble-rousing feminist out of you; before anyone at @balajitelefilmslimited or @altbalaji could hand you a script or an edit tool I made sure you got a doctor’s set to play with. Your Nana Nani Mama & brother adore you. I refuse to respond to the name Ravioli (he is a dish for sure but no way will someone make Ravioli his call sign) you are loved Ravie Kapoor. happy birthday god bless @ektaravikapoor."
Ekta had also shared a special post for her son, Ravie for his first birthday. She had posted a video, and had captioned it as "JAI MATA DI Exactly a year ago on this day a new journey began... writing’ mentalhood’ had made me paranoid. Being a mother was not easy, a life long commitment. u came smiled n I knew. I finally belonged! For those who don't know, Ekta Kapoor was waiting to take on the journey of motherhood for the past seven years and had tried various methods over the years, but nothing worked. In one of her Instagram posts, she had thanked her doctor, Nandita Palshetkar, who is an IVF specialist. She had written, "Thank you doctor Nandita it’s been a 7-year journey! By God's grace, I have seen many successes in my life, but nothing beats the feeling of this beautiful soul being added in my world. I cannot even begin to express how happy my baby's birth has made me. Everything in life doesn't go the way you want it to but there are always solutions to those hiccups. I found mine and today I feel immensely blessed to become a parent. It is an emotional moment for me and my family and I can't wait to begin this new journey of being a mother to my little bundle of joy, Ravie Kapoor."
In an interview with News 18, Ekta had talked about her reaction when she got to know that the surrogate had conceived. She had shared, "When I knew that the surrogate had conceived, and it was on June 7. On my birthday I got to know. I was a bit overwhelmed. I was like 'Okay this is happening. This is going to be a huge responsibility. I just wrote a show out which is going to be with an A-list Bollywood actress. It's called Mentalhood. It's about motherhood and every time we did the scripting about the Momzillas and the pressure you go through, the guilt you go through, tiger moms, helicopter moms, I was constantly feeling overwhelmed. But now I have realised that I have a lot of guilt even now." (Don't Miss: Shah Rukh Khan's Statement On Kids, Aryan, Suhana, AbRam's Religion Proves His 'Dil' Is 'Hindustani')
