The actress asked her mother the reason behind giving her money, and she stated that they cannot take anything from their daughters. Elaborating on the same, Smriti shared:
“For the first time, my mother said, "We can't take anything from our daughters but I can share my wish that if I die, then I want to die in my own house." My mother has lived all her life on rent. 6 years back, I bought a house. My mother gives me Re 1 for the rent so that her self-respect is intact. People ask me what makes me feel satisfied, I would say that the feeling that my mother can die peacefully after getting her wish fulfilled, makes me feel satisfied.”
In the same interview, Smriti recalled her early days in television and how her daily income was Rs. 1,800. She also revealed that her makeup artist was embarrassed to see her, as she used to travel in an auto. Elaborating on the same, Smriti stated:
“You don't even look like a star, you look more like a technician with that kind of lifestyle. I used to get Rs. 1800, per day. When Zubin and I got married we barely had Rs. 30,000. I remember my makeup man was embarrassed and he used to say, 'gaadi toh lelo mujhe sharam aati hai mai gaadi pe aata hu aur Tulsi bhabhi auto mein aa rahi hai.”
Smriti Irani never let her sufferings surpass her. She rather worked hard and rewrote her destiny.
