The cricketer also added that she's a private person, and she would like to keep it that way only, while confirming that her wedding with Palaash Muchhal has been called off. In the note, she also revealed that she would want to close this matter.

Smriti also asked her fans, media, and others to respect her and the other family's privacy at this time and to allow them space to move on. She also mentioned that she will continue to choose her higher purpose, which is and has always been to represent her country. An excerpt from her note could be read as:

"Over the past few weeks there has been plenty of speculation around my life and I feel it is important for me to speak out at this time. I am a very private person and I would like to keep it that way but I need to clarify that the wedding is called off. I would like to close this matter here and implore all of you to do the same. I request you to please respect the privacy of both families at this time and allow us the space to process and move on at our own pace."

After the sangeet of Smriti Mandhana and Palaash Muchhal, it was declared that the wedding was postponed, which was said to be due to the cricketer's father's ill health. Following this, a woman named Mary D'Costa came forward and shared several screenshots of her chats with Palaash, where he was seen insisting that she meet him.

On the other hand, on Reddit, speculations were made that Palaash cheated on Smriti with the choreographer of their wedding. People misinterpreted Mary as the choreographer, which she later denied and claimed that she was never involved with Palaash, who, in his chats to her, said that the long-distance relationship with Smriti 'sucks'.
