In the same interview with PTI, Sobhita Dhulipala revealed that she was so hungry for validation that she participated in the Miss India beauty pageant back in 2013. To everyone's surprise, she cleared the first round and received much attention in college.
It was the first time that people started noticing Sobhita Dhulipala, and she was on cloud nine. The actress won the prestigious Femina Miss India Earth title in 2013 and represented India at Miss Earth 2013. Recalling the same, Sobhita stated:
"I wanted someone to make me feel desired, I thought may be guys will like me. I was 19, so validation played a huge role in my taking part in Miss India. My friend was interning at the Miss India office and asked me to go for an audition. I just wanted to clear one basic round to show it to my friends. 'I'm in this mind space and I can do this, losers'. I cleared the first round and then I wanted to do more. For the first time in my life, I was getting attention."
Despite being crowned as the Femina Miss India Earth 2013 at the prestigious Femina Miss India 2013 beauty pageant, Sobhita Dhulipala admitted in her candid conversation with PTI that the attention she received after winning the 2013 beauty pageant damaged her 'self-esteem'.
Explaining the whole situation, Sobhita Dhulipala revealed that earlier, her focus was on becoming a well-educated person, but after participating in beauty pageants, her entire focus shifted solely to her looks. The actress admitted that she realised it soon and felt disappointed with herself as she didn't feel good in her heart. Opening up about the same, she said:
"Miss India did more damage to my self-esteem. It took me more away from me because you're reduced to someone who's entertaining, who is pleasing. Earlier, I would never focus on how I looked because I thought I was just 'ok'. So my focus was on being well-read, good in studies, school captain. My personality depended on what I read, not on some magical genetic thing. In Miss India, so much was about how you looked. Miss India actually made me feel small. It made me feel like it doesn't matter what you feel or think, what sells is beauty and sex."

"When you first start, everything is a battle. I'm not from the movies. I recall being told numerous times during my ad auditions that I am not 'gori' enough. I was told directly to my face that I am not pretty enough, similar to how you see in advertisements."
Sobhita Dhulipala made her acting debut in 2016 with Anurag Kashyap's Raman Raghav 2.0.
