Sobhita Dhulipala Reveals Feeling Insecure Sometimes, Her Face Was Called Not 'Pretty' For Cinema

Sobhita Dhulipala is loved for her outstanding acting skills and sartorial fashion choices. The Miss India Earth 2013 began her acting career as a model. Later, she transitioned to acting with Anurag Kashyap’s 2016 thriller, Raman Raghav 2.0. Afterwards, Sobhita was seen in many films and web series, including Moothon, Major, Kurup, Ponniyin Selvan - both parts, Made in Heaven, and others. Currently, she is busy promoting her upcoming next, The Night Manager season two, which will start premiering on June 30, 2023. However, in a recent conversation, Sobhita opened up about how she had to deal with people's comments in the initial days of her film career.

Sobhita Dhulipala reveals her initial days in the industry were no less than a battle

In an interview with indianexpress.com, Sobhita Dhulipala opened up about the initial phase of her acting career. She revealed how people commented on her skin tone when she went for advertisement auditions. However, without feeling dejected, she kept working. She said:

“When you are starting out, everything is a battle. I am not from the movies. I remember in my ad auditions I was told many times that I am not ‘gori’ (fair) enough. There were these things which you see at ad level, where I was told to my face that I am not pretty enough. Not that I was (dejected).”

In the same conversation, Sobhita mentioned that after getting humiliated by people's mean comments, she was already acquainted with the commentors idea that what makes one “pretty” was “narrow and of a certain kind.” Thus, she thought of brainstorming brilliant ideas to be part of the creative field. Despite people talking about how she looks, or her dark skin colour, Sobhita continued giving her best to stay connected with the acting industry. She added:

“I started thinking how I can be creative, still be a part of this industry because I am really passionate about it and work for it every single day. That’s when you start thinking out of the box, instead of waiting for a brilliant successful commercial filmmaker to ‘discover’ you. What is in my control is to go for auditions, give my 100 percent.”

Sobhita reveals how she used to console herself after people put hurtful comments about her looks and others

Further, Sobhita explained how she remained unfazed despite comments about her, which could have damaged a then-newcomer’s self-esteem. The actress clearly wanted to enter the industry to be an actor and not a star. Thus, her path towards working hard and proving her mettle in acting was extremely clear. However, when she used to get demotivated or feel secure, she used to look back and gain the strength to move ahead. Sobhita revealed:

“When you really love acting, you won’t be worried about this, because you will act. But if your goal is to be a star and work backwards, that what are the different ways where I can be a star, then you will be stressed, that, ‘Ok, a star should be these things.’ But I don’t find myself in that lane. Of course, I would love to be celebrated, because what is art without spectators? But on days when I am not feeling very secure, I remind myself that I have come a long way, from the coast of Visakhapatnam and it has been great so far and there is so much more that I want to do.”
