Actress, Sharmila Tagore and cricketer, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi made headlines with their wedding in 1968. The union was arguably the centre of all reports, with cinema and cricket being two of the most loved aspects of Indian society. However, the recent developments in the cricket world has left the Pataudis feeling disappointed.
Soha Ali Khan has also expressed her disappointment over the reports suggesting that BCCI and ECB have alleged plans to retire the trophy named after her father, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. The prestigious 'Pataudi Trophy' was an honour to her late father, Mansoor, also known as 'Tiger Pataudi'. Now, in a candid conversation with News18 Showsha, Soha has reflected on her father's fond memories.
Mansoor Ali Khan was considered one of the best frielders in the world. The ace cricketer retired in 1975 and passed away in 2011. During the conversation, Soha Ali Khan recalled how her father had shared her desire to become a fast bowler, had she been a boy. She also recalled watching him play a father-son cricket match with a bunch of teenagers. Soha further revealed that his father was at 350 and not ready to give up. She was quoted as saying:
"I do remember watching him play one father-son cricket match with a bunch of 13-year-olds. He was a 350 not-out in that match. At some point, someone told him that he should get out because he was playing with children (laughs). But he adamantly said, 'No, I'm going to keep playing.' He kept hitting six after six after six. He was really competitive."
In the same conversation, Soha Ali Khan recalled how popular he was as a cricketer. She revealed that while he was retired before she was born, she realised how extraordinary her father, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, was when he passed away. She shared that while growing up, her mother, Sharmila Tagore, was the breadwinner, but when he passed away, people reached out to her with incredible stories about her father, making her realise the impact he had left behind. Soha Ali Khan was quoted as saying:
"He was retired by the time I was born. I was born in 1978. When I was growing up, he was at home, and my mother was the one who went out to work. But I was aware and when he passed away, a lot of people reached out to me with incredible stories of how much he had achieved."
Soha is currently busy promoting her latest release, Chhorri 2, which also stars Nushrratt Bharuccha, Gashmeer Mahajan, Sourabh Goyal and Jitendra Kumar. Directed by Vishal Furia and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Vikram Kumar, and Jack Davis, the film was released on Amazon Prime Video on April 11, 2025.
