Bollywood actress, Sonali Bendre was one of the biggest stars in the 90s. She had made her Bollywood debut with the film, Aag. Over the years, she delighted the audiences with her excellent performances in films like Sarfarosh, Hum Saath Saath Hain, Diljale, Major Saab and many others. Sonali was a diva, and she managed to etch her place in the Bollywood industry back then.
However, did you know that Sonali Bendre was body-shamed back in the day? Yes, you read that right! The actress was too skinny and thus, people used to criticise her for the same. Moreover, after her long battle with cancer, her scars made her journey in Bollywood more difficult. Now, in an interview, the actress opened up about the same and revealed how she managed to cope up with the body shaming.

In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Sonali Bendre opened up about the body shaming she faced during the 90s. The actress recalled the time when she was skinny-shamed and revealed that she was told that she was not voluptuous enough to be a woman. Reflecting on the same, she shared:
“The 90s because being skinny was definitely not the standard of beauty so voluptuousness was the standard of beauty and you were just not a woman enough if you were not voluptuous.”
For the unversed, Sonali Bendre was diagnosed with metastatic cancer and she had to undergo treatment for months in New York. However, she had bravely fought the deadly disease and came out stronger. In the same interview, the actress spoke about how her cancer scars and bald head used to scare her and how she was afraid to step out. Talking about the same, she said:
“I wanted to do this shoot and I wanted to do it with this scar showing because I was scared to show it. The moment I’m scared it’s like I think I’m going to go out only with a wig. I don’t know if I should step out with my bald head, then the thing to do was to step out without the wig to step out at all. Because if this is what you’re afraid of, crush it right there."

Further in the interview, Sonali also mentioned that her bloated face and the baldness was the most ugly sight for her and added that she was really scared to step out like that. However, the actress bravely came out of it and crushed all her fears. Talking about her coping mechanism, Sonali said:
"That was the scary part as the bloated face, the scar and the baldness, and especially when the hair just starts coming, it’s just the most ugly sight on the top of your head. But I did that and I believed that the moment you’re scared of something and you’re feeling that ‘No, how can I do this, I need to go out', then you should do it. You just kill it right there or just crush it then. That was one way of looking at it.”
