Soni Razdan Expresses Disappointment Over Her Marriage To Mahesh Bhatt, 'All My Life, Even Now...'

Soni Razdan is a British actress and filmmaker, who established herself as a leading actress in the '80s and early '90s. However, everything took a back seat after her marriage to renowned director, Mahesh Bhatt. For the unversed, Soni tied the knot with Mahesh in 1986. When Soni got married, she was at the peak of her acting career. The duo crossed paths at the sets of Saaransh. In a recent interview, Soni spoke her heart out and shared her disappointment over her marriage to Mahesh, as her acting career went downhill after that.

In a recent interview with News18 Showsha, Soni mentioned that when she began her acting career, she was doing quite well. However, everything around her changed after she became Mahesh Bhatt’s wife. She also shared that after her marriage, she wasn’t getting any work. In her words:

"I've grown up in this industry – in the sense that I’ve been here for so many years. There has been a huge change over the years. I find it to be an almost different world altogether. When I started out, I was doing really well. And then, suddenly, I got married. I wasn’t getting any work after that."

In the same interview, Soni revealed that it was Ramesh Sippy and Jyoti Sarup’s TV series, Buniyaad, which was her turning point after she lost work following her marriage. She shared how people judged her after her marriage to Mahesh. In fact, the judgments made her angry as well. She was quoted as saying:

"I got a feedback from somewhere that since she’s now so and so’s wife, why does she need to work? I got so angry! But then, luckily, Buniyaad happened and after that, I got to work in some really good films. But before that, I was so upset. But this is what has changed today."

Further in the interview, Soni expressed that throughout her life, she has been addressed as somebody’s wife or mother, rather than by her own identity. She shared how she felt her identity had been restricted after she became Mahesh’s wife and Alia Bhatt’s mom. She mentioned that her struggle has nothing to do with her family and is entirely personal. Soni also mentioned that she is happy for the people around her, who are doing pretty well in their careers. In her words:

"All my life, even now, I’m somebody else’s somebody. Let me be very loud and clear… My struggle is still to be known by who I am. I’m happy for the people around me, who’re doing so well in their lives. How could I not be? I’m grateful. But perhaps that’s how my journey was meant to be. Now I laugh at it. It’s funny, but I just go on, thinking that it’s okay."

Soni Razdan tied the knot with Mahesh Bhatt in 1986, secretly. Later, the couple announced their marriage during the reception party at Hotel Taj in Mumbai. The duo welcomed their first child, a daughter, Shaheen Bhatt, in 1988. In 1993, the couple welcomed their second child, a daughter, Alia Bhatt.
